Bf-109 to cause a RIAT!

For those (few??) who don’t know, one of EADS’ ‘Bf-109G’s is due to appear in the Battle of Britain set-piece at the show!

I’m sorry I’m a bit late on this one but I remember being at Duxford when “Black Six” did a run and break and on the overrun sounded like a bag of nails. I was unwise enough to say this within earshot of Charlie Brown and got a very pithy rundown of just what an excellent motor the Daimler Benz was. (Still prefer the Merlin though).

Its down on the participation list as TBC to fly.

Which could merely mean that a request has been made. I’ve lost count of how many airshows in Germany alone Messerschmitt Foundation aircraft have been “tbc” and never shown up. I wouldn’t hold my breath on this one.

They have brought one to RIAT before although it did not fly.

Which one was that? The non-airworthy, static Bf-109G2 which I recently posted a picture of (the one which is now in overall silver)?

If they are crated up and then shipped out, apart from the ship sinking the flight over water is eliminated so what’s the problem with being away from home ?

I don’t know, ask the Messerschmitt Foundation or the EADS Historic Flight

Duxford is home for many warbirds [including 109’s in the past] and may have all the necessary experience and tooling available to assist.
I hope it happens:)

Sorry to be a spoilsport, but….

The Messerschmitt Foundation aircraft never venture very far away from their base, the occasional appearences at La FertΓ© Alais and Berlin being the exceptions. I’d be very surprised if they bring a flying aircraft all the way to the RIAT and I can’t find anything to this effect on the RIAT website.

What’s the source for this information?

The source is the May issue of ‘Aircraft’ -It does say it was officially confirmed (along with a couple of F-22s, a Sri Lankan Air Force AN-32 and “Armor Aero Passion’s MS760 Paris”)

Read this http://www.aaib.gov.uk/cms_resources.cfm?file=/dft_avsafety_pdf_501760.pdf and form your own judgement.

That was a very interesting read. Although its a pain that so many spaces are missing between words. (but who am I to judge somebody elses writing)

I read through the report and tried to overlay it on my own memory. I now have a much better understanding of what happend. One thing it has reminded me of is, while watching the display I could hear someone to the side of me saying “that sounds fantastic” or words to that affect. I thought it sounded terrible.

Any way, the pilot came out Ok and the aircraft is now on display. Thats all that matters.

Sorry about the Black 6 thread drift.

… so hopefully they bring all three to …

Hello,

at the moment only one is airworthy, G4 “Red Seven” D-FWME

G10 F-FDME is currently under repair, but almost done, will
fly with completely new painting within some weeks

G6 D-FMBB will also get further overhauling later this year
(did not fly for more than two years)

I’ve seen the AAIB report before, but I didn’t say it wasn’t pilot error.

Woah-ho-ho, let’s not sling accusations around like that. Pilot error or not, this forum’s not the kind of place to go bad-mouthing an experienced warbird pilot…

Accidents happen. Some have better conequences than others.

That’s the one. I hadn’t realised it had been re-registered.

D-FEHD, Hans Dittes’ re-engined/rebuilt Buchon which had previously flown in both Piece of Cake and Memphis Belle in its Merlin-engined days. It’s now with the Messerschmitt Foundation/EADS.

I think the two did appear at both North Weald and Duxford, as they’ve been discussed on here before.

They both appeared in the two-part comedy-drama Over Here in 1995.

I thought so too. I can not remember the reg but it was a re-engined Buchon with a black spiral spinner and an unusual (single piece side glazing) canopy.

I was one of the lucky ones to hear end see 2 109’s in formation. Think it was 94 ore 95 at north weald.

I’m sure I saw that at Duxford as well, or is my memory playing tricks
