bf-109E scrapped in 1981?????

Found this photo on airliners.net with the remark that it had been scrapped in 81!!! 😮 http://www.airliners.net/open.file/919434/L/
This leads me to wonder: a) if this is true. b) it is a replica. c) none of the above.

Manfred Pflumm and not Plumpf had built a large number of replicas for museums across Germany. (Fokker DR1, Fokker E.III, Junlers J 10, Junkers Ju 87 which was displayed at Frankfurt International’s viewers terrace in 1979), Bf 109E, Ju 13 at Stuttgart)

He is located at INTERNATIONAL LUFTFAHRTMUSEUM MANFRED PFLUMM, D-78056 Villingen-Schwenningen.

Was there a few weeks ago and the remains of a 109 replica were lingering around behind some buildings. As it was wrapped, I didn’t give it much notice so I guess it is the same plane. BW Roger

It’s a replica. If you look closely at the fuselage you can see that it has some form of skinning that is stretched over longitudal formers. The real 109 was metal skinned with a series of narrow panels that lapped each other vertically.

Yeah. There was something not quite right, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I really couldn’t believe a genuine 109 on display in Germany would have been scrapped by the 1980’s. And if nothing has happened since Evzen’s photo the replica might still be there!

The glazing in the canopy and air intake do not look right as well.

I’m not 100% certain, but I believe that it was a replica, as were most WW II aircraft in the Air Classic collection. The rudder of the Bf 109E is most definitely non-standard!

It’s a replica, or so I was told when I asked about it a few months ago 😉
