Hello, me again,
Am still plodding away on my quest for a 109E blade for the fibreglass replica I am helping with and have yet another question.
I read somewhere that the bf110C had the same engines as the 109E and so therefore would the propellers be the same? If that is correct may go down the route of looking for 110 material instead to aid with the build.
Spending so much on it now, even dream about it. How sad is that?! 🙂
Cheers,
Martin

Yup, the blades will differ – or at least they should. Blade profile has to do in equal amounts with engine and the desired ‘envelope’. So a Merlin powering a Spitfire would have a completely different prop from the same engine in a Lancaster. Different optimum speeds – or rather speeds at which the highest translation of engine power to thrust is most important. There are other considerations too.
In reality blades varied even within more or less the same envelope and on the same engine. Spitfire and Hurricane, for example

the prop hubs are nigh on the same

A great help. Have been doing a little digging this morning and the engines do appear to be DB601As. The propeller blade for the 109 is a 9-11073.10 and the unit a VDM 9-11081A. What is interesting is that the 109E that is currently at Hendon has a 110 engine fitted. Taken from a Bf110C-5 which became AX772.

I have had props from 110 and 109, the prop was stamped 110 and 109 on the two, so I cannot remember much diference in the two sets but something says the prop was a couple of inches longer on one set.
sorry not much help
