BHHH Airshow 17th August 2013? (Biggin Hill)…

Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar are planning an airshow at Biggin Hill for 17th August. They haven’t released a press release yet so I wasn’t sure to post this but on the BHHH Facebook they are looking at 17th August and involving home based aircraft. The BBMF will also be based at Biggin for Eastbourne Airshow. Hopefully more details soon but sounds good…

Not sure if link will work as posting using my mobile…

When I say the Air Fair was ‘getting in the way of business’ from Biggin Hill Airport perspective. Most of the week building up to the air fair flights to and from Biggin Hill were effected and had more limited time slots. Especially on the Thursday, Friday, and the weekend of the Air Fair the airport was mostly ‘closed’ to air traffic. The terminal was also closed. I agree with you about how successful the Air Fair was and the huge crowds and I agree it shouldn’t have been stopped, especially when the owners of the airport promised the airshow would not be effected and would continue just before they did a u-turn and stopped the show.

The Air Fair was good for some of the businesses near the airport, like some of the local pubs and park areas, and shops which were packed with people buying food and drinks on the walk home, or to transport links.

The BHHH Air Show is NOT a replacement for the Air Fair, it is their own event and a new air show for this year and is a step in the right direction. Would people prefer no airshow at Biggin Hill? Or an Open House event like in 2011?
Personally this new event BHHH are organising for this year is better. A nice line up of war birds.

I think it was more to do with the upmarket locals moaning about traffic and Aircraft noise more than anything else ,,same thing at the Bentwaters airshow 3 years ago ,very very popular for a first airshow ,and as i was walking around there ,i overheard a local say ,,well this will be a one off ,we don,t like all this disruption to the road here ,then they said oh ,,Bentwaters airshow will be every 2 years ,but as it turned out there will be no more airshow,s at Bentwaters ,an ideal venue for an Airshow i would have said , the bus tour was very good by the way

If you went to the first day of the show early, as soon as the airfield was open there was an exodus of based business jets being moved out.
Once some years ago a biz-jet was laboriously towed along the Peri track through the car park!

This is certainly an announcement that has pleased me immensely and BHHH should be applauded, I’ll certainly be doing so when I go on the 17th . If any of you have not done so I would thoroughly recommend subscribing to their Facebook ‘page’ (probably wrong term but you know what I mean). In their relatively short time of existence all at BHHH have come across as very open in sharing information on their work and wonderful aircraft for which they have my thanks.

In terms of an event at Biggin Hill then hopefully it is a case of ‘from little acorns…’ 🙂

The only problem I have not is that I have to fit this in and a visit to Beachy Head. After last years shots (especially of XH558) I have to witness it myself. As people point out to me though; it’s not a bad problem to have.

How could the Air Fair at two days get in the way of business, or in other words make a dent in a years worth of revenue? So, didn’t the Air Fair bring much in the way of income to the Airport despite being packed on those two days? If I can travel for an hour to Shuttleworth for something similar then what would entice me to travel 4-5 hours to Biggin Hill for this planned show, especially when I can see most of the aircraft on display at Duxford during their shows as well. I’m not entirely convinced that this will be a winner for the future of Airshows at Biggin. Maybe for those who live within an hour or two who never venture north of London, this will be of interest.
I do miss the Air Fair, but don’t believe it was stopped because of loss of Business revenue, it’s not as if Private flights stopped totally on airshow days.

Anatoly has been very fortunate in the aviation world but I seem to remember news about GIS wife and child being killed in car accident some years back…

The Russian SU27 Flanker was a big crowd puller at Biggin ,any one know what Anotoly the Pilot is doing now days ? he also did a one off display at Bruntingthorpe quite a few years back , he seemed to have a problem getting into his Aircraft at Bruntingthorpe as he had no back up and no ground crew i seem to remember he had to use a standard wooden ladder to get into his Aircraft ,which was quite unusual

I can,t understand why they stopped what was a very very popular show ,it was always packed to the limits, they could have doubled the entrance fee and it would still have been packed ,i suspect it was due to some of the upmarket locals complaining about the local traffic and noise from the show ,a lot of people enjoyed the Biggin Air Show ,sadly missed !!!

I agree the Air Fair was very popular and has kept Biggin Hill on the map with people from across the globe travelling to see it. It was very well organised by a very experienced team for many years. It was getting in the way of business so the company that runs the airport stopped it. Personally I feel the Air Fair has helped make Biggin Hill what it is today, or it may have been just another former RAF base asigned to history books.

The team lead by Joe at BHHH are very good and any airshow they organise is a step in the right direction. 🙂

Good afternoon,

We are still at the very early stages of planning for our event on the 17th of August this year. It will be along the lines of the concert that was staged at Chartwell a few years back with our aircraft and possibly the BBMF taking part. The concert is a partnership between Biggin Hill Airport Ltd and us with Synergy Events being the organiser on our behalf.

We will hopefully produce a press release soon, after a few more meetings and discussions etc.

Lets hope for good weather.

Many thanks,

BHHH Ltd:)

Terry

Possibly due to the disruption caused to the multitude of Business Jets that seem to fill the place these days.

Biggin Hill Airport did say they wanted to hold an airshow, but probably not on the scale of the original Air Fair. For whatever reason the airshow idea has not happened yet.

Hopefully if running smaller events at Biggin proves popular, bigger things may follow hopefully!!!

Ah! – interesting in its own right but hardly an airshow. I am sure I did read somewhere about the potential revival of the old show, or is that just wishful thinking?

I believe it is more of a concert with accompanying flying displays/big screens showing archive footage rather than a pure airshow. The event is being staged jointly between Synergy Events and BHHH. Synergy ran the excellent RAF Concerts over the last few years at Chartwell and Loseley Park. As well as this event they are also involved with an event at RAF Cranwell on the 27th July.

Be good to see a show back at Biggin Hill. It’s a great venue and always well attended by the public.

The return of a proper airshow at Biggin would be very welcome!
