shame she wasn’t restored to fly – how many Griffon engined projects are there currently?

Something looks odd about the tailwheel assembly too!

re:
That 649 looks weird somehow. Is it a low back modified to high-back? Rudder also looks weird :/
Is it a Tempest Rudder?

Just for accuracy, this is actually Mk.XVIII TP263 pretending to be a Mk.XIV. She wears the psuedo RAF serial ‘NH649’ which is based on her old Indian Air force serial HS649 because her actual serial was not known at the time of restoration

There is an article on RW382 in the recent December issue of Flypast. Although it wasn’t mentioned, I noted that this beautiful aircraft is in the markings of the “Dutch” 322 Squadron (ref. orange triangle). The Spitfire XVIII NH649 in the National War Museum in Overloon, The Netherlands, is painted in a very similar scheme.

Is it true that this a/c when on display at Uxbridge was stolen by the rock apes and found by a milk man? I was told that by a cook based there…
I am not sure if it was this one or the subsequent replacement replica, but either/or it did find it’s way in to Uxbridge one night. Not sure it was a QCS RAFR jape or another unit trying to generate the ultimate in FetChits but it definately happened.
