Kev,
Your statement about the Radcliffe is, I believe, correct.

Dave.
Yes, Lyneham of course. My apologies. am I correct in remembering that following the passage through Wootton Bassett that the fallen are then taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford?
Bristol Rob.
I’m sure that the wounded are brought home via BHX, originally to Selly Oak and now, with Selly Oak’s recent or impending closure, to the QE.
As an aside, did you ever get a resolution from the Egyptian Airline and/or their lawyer?

did G-OOBK have blended winglets at all
And lastly…just because BRS is soon to loose a 757 soon, there is no excuse for missing the daily CO rotation outta BHX…where you too late to see it this time round?! I best have a pic of one when you go to EDI or there’ll be trouble!:D:diablo:
Yerp it sure Did Jon, Haha Rub it in why don’t you 😀 Don’t worry Mate i shall Get her at EDI just for you Mate, Don’t wanna face the Wrath of Jon :p:p
Thanks Jon and Thanks Everyone Else, I did hear that the C-17 Was in From Kandahar. So im not sure the Reasons.
Many Thank’s Lad’s

It’s my understanding that the fallen go through Brize while the wounded, particularly those seriously wounded, use BHX due to the proximity to the QE.

The fallen – alas so many! – are repatriated via Lyneham.
After a sombre ceremonial arrival ceremony, and family reunion with their loved ones, they are driven through the local town of Wootton Bassett where they are honoured by the good people of that place, along with others who travel from across the UK to pay their respects.

Great shots. Considering my relative proximity to BHX I really should get off my bum and try it out one day!
By: kev35 - 15th July 2010 at 12:19
If only. Sadly it’s all just memories for me. I didn’t have a camera then let alone any kind of knowledge on how to use one. Bur if anyone else has photo’s of BHX from that era I would be delighted to see them too.

What? A Rob post without orange? Something’s wrong! Nice shots, Rob, the little AF CRJ’s a cracking photo!
Kev, would you by any chance have any photos from those wonderful old days? I’d love to see them if you do. 🙂

nice set of shots…
this is now the long stay carpark is, but it used to be the “grass bank” for people that can remember that far back!
That far back? I remember spotting from the steps, the garden and the spectators ‘lounge’ over on the far side of the airfield. That terminal was lovely, almost art deco. Thinking of sitting in the lounge and looking down at at BMA Viscounts and DC9’s, the 1-11’s of Bcal, BA, Aer Lingus and BUA, Laker and Wardair DC10’s, Monarch Britannia’s and 720’s brings back many happy memories.

Great selection of pics there Rob, nice catch with the C-17!:)
Strange to see the FCA 767 still knocking around in its now defunct FCA livery…FCA & TOM have been together for quite some time now so I would have thought they would have gotten round to re-painting all their aircraft into Thomson Airways branding?
Another quick question, also FCA 767 related, but did G-OOBK have blended winglets at all; I know that they’ve started retrofitting them onto some of their aircraft, just not sure if/when they will all have them!
And lastly…just because BRS is soon to loose a 757 soon, there is no excuse for missing the daily CO rotation outta BHX…where you too late to see it this time round?! I best have a pic of one when you go to EDI or there’ll be trouble!:D:diablo:
Nice pictures. Any shot of a C17 at BHX (or over my house on approach) is a source of sadness as they are generally bringing wounded from Afghanistan to the Defence Medical Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
kev35, I thought that all military flights carrying fallen/injured personnel went through Brize Norton, obviously not in this case?

Great photos mate, looks like you got some ace light and no heat haze! The AF crj is my favourite with the amazingly bumpy runway in the background, i thought LBA was bad
