BHX-BRU on SN Brussels 5th September 2005

On 5th September we flew on holiday to Belgium. On the 4th, we spent the night in the Novotel at BHX.

View from top floor room at Novotel.

On 5th September, we were up early to check in for the flight, which was due to leave at 10:20. As usual when we fly from BHX, it was foggy! We were given seats 8A and 8C on the ARJ85 OO-DJO of SN Brussels Airlines. I took some photos from the departure lounge, but in the Eurohub the viewing is lousy.

Our old friend the Balkan Holidays 154.

We saw flight SN2038, the 08:50 departure to Brussels, leave as we waited for ours. At 10:05 we were called to board our aircraft through door J gate 2.

We were greeted by a female purser and another stewardess was at the back. Our seats gave us a back engine view. Beside us was little Tartan Tail ERJ145 G-EMBK.

Thanks for that tip Future Pilot, then it was definitely a 15 departure.

A very nice read Comet 😀

Another way you can tell what runway you took off from is the taxi-time, guarentee the taxi-time will be longer if you depart runway 15, also if the Terminals are on your left it’s a 15 departure, and if on the right a 33 departure 😉 🙂

Thanks for the comments.

I’ll take a closer look at the Flybe, I flew for Flybe Virtual and also had a 146 in Flybe colours.

I’ll get the photos for the return report uploaded as soon as I can.

Thanks for the runway ID! I fly from BHX often in FS and I cannot remember which runway is which when I am actually at BHX 😮

Great report and pictures. It looks like you took off on runway 15 as the long stay car park is where i get most of my photos from 😀

The inflight magazine was handed out in good time.

View through window.

We were told the flight would last an hour, and there would be some turbulence. At 10:19 we were pushed back and taxied to the right side runway (cannot remember the number). The flight was code shared with British Airways, Finnair and SWISS 😡 😡 😡 😡 We took off at 10:32, and climbed through the cloud and murk.

Just after take off.

The initial climb was smooth, but we soon came into increasing turbulence, and the seat belt lights came on again. After a while though, we were flying in blue skies with scattered clouds. Then the snack was handed out. It was fruit crumble, with a carton of water and orange juice.

The purser on the flight. We had a good, professional and very efficient crew. After the snacks there were chocolates handed round. Soon we crossed to Belgian coast.

The weather improved when we reached Belgium.

We approached towards runway 25L, past my favourite spotting place. The landing gear lowered at 12:26.

On final approach.

We touched down on 25L at 12:29.

Touchdown.

The landing was smooth, and we taxied to the terminal. Our luggage was with us very soon after, minus its padlocks! We complained to the Managing Director of Birmingham Airport and sent him the bill for the replacement ones. But we had a brilliant flight!
