Hello, I’m a big fan of big props especially civilian types, In the last decade and a half I was inspired by the big prop airshow at Coventry and in the
1990’s another 1950’s propliner type airshow at Lydd, Kent.
Just wondered if there were any similar type airshows in Europe this year with a gathering of big civilan propliners?
Any information on up and coming shows for this year would be appreciated.
Have car will travel!
Any photos of previous similar type shows would also be welcome

I think the one main stumbling block to such a show this season will be the lack of European based big propliners! The Dutch Connie is still grounded, the Breitling Connie is out for this season for corrosion treatment, AA’s DC-6 hasn’t flown since 2008 (although I understand she should be back for some or all of this season), which only leaves the Red Bull DC-7.

What about the C-97 Strat in Germany… is this still active?

Hmmm thanks for this, looks a bit grim for the old propliners this season, wasn’t there a DC-3 meeting last year somewhere in Western Europe?

The only potentially flyable C-97 right now is in New York. Lufthansa’s L-1649 will be flying soon though – probably 2017.
2017 seems VERY optimistic for the LH Starliner: progress is being made, but only slowly.
The C-97 is at Floyd Bennet Field, NY and has been engine running recently.

There is one event that fits in your requirement: www.airliner-classics.de at Speyer (south-western Germany) in August.
Rides with Lockeed Super-Constellation & Douglas DC-3 from Switzerland and Lufthansa Junkers Ju52 from Lufthansa. Also there is expected another DC-3 and several `small´ airliners like de Havilland Dove & Beech 18.
If you also like static airliners: 500 meters away is the www.technik-museum.de with classic Airliners like Vickers Visount & Boeing 747 (amon many other aircraft) to be exhibited

Any big prop meets in Europe for 2016??? With the cancellation of so many air shows in the UK this year I will be looking further a field (Europe) for my air show fixes.
