I have mixed feeling about Biggin this year, a good show but maybe not the most memorable.
The 65th anniversary of the Battle of Britain was reacted with the customary scramble despite having no bandits to fight! Surely a Me 108 or even a Pilatus P2 could have been booked.
The Delta jets/ Reds formation could have made a second pass, and why did the Delta trio, not join the static, such a shame to have them parked on the far side.
The only other point I would like to make is that I felt the show was a touch too long, I guess part of the reason was down to the many movements of display aircraft to Shoreham.
On the positive side it was great to see two Mirage fighters albeit in the static, and the two seat Sea Harrier display.
Superb displays were also flown by Carl Schofield in the P47 and the ever youthful Ray Hanna.
I seemed to spend most of the afternoon trying to work out the best technique to snap photos into sun in very hazy conditions.

Duxfordhawk, thanks for the kind comments, all the guys have worked really hard to get, and keep, the jets (especially the gnat) serviceable, and the pilots did a fantastic job, with a fairly small amount of practice. Seeing our jets up with the reds was superb!
And as for next year, if shows book us, we’ll be there, weather permitting!

If you do any formation with the Reds like that again, PLEASE TELL THE COMMENTATOR TO ANNOUNCE IT and not wait until you’ve flown past!
A second pass would have given us photographers a fighting chance of getting a photo. 🙁

Hi OldTimer,
Would like to shoot RAW but would need even more Compact Flash cards, I took around 500 shots at Biggin, and that was in very hazy conditions.

Septic, the reason Delta did not join the static with the reds was that we were told to park on the other side of the runway. You may have noticed that as soon as the reds had vacated, we moved across!
Cheers

Did seem odd to have the classic jets on the far side while the “Reds” were near side but it was obviously so the Crowd coulsdsee the the team do a Formal start, Something i can not remember seeing from the Red Arrows in a long time, Was Great to see the Delta Aircraft move over after the “Reds” departed pity the sabre and T-33 stayed far side all weekend though.
I would like to say i thought the Delta display was fantastic and was a highlight for me for sure and i hope to see the team out and about more next year, Well done all involved.

Most excellent arrival. Shame you weren’t booked to display on the Saturday.

Sea Vixen pic is class!
Normally I’d say the second Thunderbolt pic was terribly framed, but somehow it really works in that shot. Like it 🙂
