Well, the Biggin Hill International Air Fair is only a few days away. Will anyone be watching the skies around the field for early arrivals?
Does anyone know what’s going to be there? I’ve had a look on the website and it seems fairly tame compared to last year’s event in September. But I do remember that there was a fair amount of participants that weren’t on the online display schedule last year too.

Sticky like me works on BBMF fulltime and is in the RAF,
I thought he had intended to leave the service.
Gerbs has not been part of the groundcrew for quite a few years.
I am aware of that, but he’s still involved isn’t he?
I had a ride in your crew bus on Sunday?
I thought my car was untidy :o)

I thought I would reply to some of the points raised on this thread and on the B O B Lanc returning thread.
1. The Lanc is not being grounded in the near future she has a long life ahead at least 20 yrs2. The aircrew/ groundcrew are in the RAF, but only the boss Sqn Ldr Pinner and the groundcrew work at BBMF on a fulltime basis
3. P7350 took part in the Battle of Britain on 603 Sqn
4. The guys did a great job fixing the Lanc so it could display the next day and many of the comments posted here about this have been greatly appreciated
5. It was one of the new bags that burst, not an original, the Lancs brakes are like the Spitfire they are pneumatic
6. And finally yes I work on the flight and have been there for 13yrs
Thank you very much for the information. And the Lanc will be flying more then 20 years I hope and by them the BBMF might have a new bomber I hope 😀

Can anyone say what the Popham AN-2 was doing there?
I drive past it on the way to work and nearly swerved into the central reservation when I saw it was missing on Friday!
As far as I know it’s the first time it’s moved all year.
John
To quote Douglas Adams, it was ‘hanging in the air the way bricks don’t’.
Quite some display actually. Very slow speed stuff, and even a couple of hairy looking stall-turns!

1. The Lanc is not being grounded in the near future she has a long life ahead at least 20 yrs
Peoples perception eh!
Unfortunately it happens all the time, believe me I know, I’m asked all the time as well!
2. The aircrew/ groundcrew are in the RAF, but only the boss Sqn Ldr Pinner and the groundcrew work at BBMF on a fulltime basis.
What about Sticky and Gerbs then?
4. The guys did a great job fixing the Lanc so it could display the next day and many of the comments posted here about this have been greatly appreciated.
Been there and done that as well!
Your outfit has top boys…….oh and girls as well where appropriate.
5. It was one of the new bags that burst, not an original, the Lancs brakes are like the Spitfire they are pneumatic.
So have you used another newbie or gone back to an original?
It’s more visible when bags used are hydraulic.
6. And finally yes I work on the flight and have been there for 13yrs
13 years is that all!!!!
You’ve a long way to go to catch me up then!
For some reason I had it in my head you’d been with them longer.
Perception again then mixed in with a bit of historic Black? aah!
Anyway I know you and you know me, so you know where I’m coming from!

Nice pics and reports all. 🙂
The Ray Hanna tribute must have been quite something.
Fluffy,
Send a BIG thank you to all those that worked hard on the Lanc to get it serviceable again so soon and send one also to the Lanc crew for a cracking display at Old Warden. 😀
Cheers

I remember a bit where the commentator was saying that some people thought that the BBMF should become the ‘RAF Memorial Flight’ because the Lancaster didn’t play a role in the Battle of Britain…
Did any off the aircraft in BBMF take part in Battle of Britian?
‘RAF Memorial Flight’ sounds cool 😎

The pyros were originally planned as part of an ‘air power’ demonstration by combined military services using fixed and rotary wing craft. It was scrubbed by the MoD at the 11th hour. 😡
Rather than waste the stuff it was decided to let them off during the B17 and P51 acts. 😀
…………and didn’t they look fine!
Nice timely work the BBMF team fixing those bags.
BBMF, did you fit one of the new ones in the end, or did you use an original?

I watched the two day event from my back garden and was impressed. There’s one question I have for the people that actually attended the show:
What were the pyrotechnics for that went off just before Sally B displayed?
There were some of these for Ferocious Frankie ‘strafing’ the airfield as well – very impressive. Deeply silly, but wonderful.
By: XN923 - 5th June 2006 at 16:27
Aha! Dramatic license!
I was listening in on the radio for what was “up next” and swear I heard one of the presenters saying how the Lancaster played a key role in the Battle of Britain. I hope I was wrong and it was the hayfever tablets making me hear things. He probably meant a key role in the BBMF.
