Biggin Hill Airshow 1986. Or Is It?

I have a video on YouTube showing the Biggin Hill airfair in 1986 (or what I thought was 1986).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pUVOYRamN0

But someone has left a comment saying it is probably 1987. This has now put doubt in my mind.

I thought I’d ask the experts. Can anyone here come up with a date?

Tony.

Well it’s looking like 1987 is’t it? I checked my slides last night and I have got photos of 1987 airshow (the slides have 1987 stamped on them) and these include Concorde with 2 Spitfires so I guess I must have taken my camera as well as the old cine camera.

Thanks for all your comments.

The first year that 74 Sqn displayed the F4J(UK) was 1987.

I’m 99% sure it was 1987 as well, because of the ‘Tigers’ F-4J display.

I only went to one Biggin display during this period, and there was a Tigers F-4J in the air display. The reason I know it was 1987 was the reason I went was because Mossie RS712 was going to display with RR299 prior to it’s departure shortly afterwards to the USA to Weeks.
Sadly it developed a fault which prevented it from flying that day. Somewhere, I’ve got a piccie of the F-4J taking off for it’s display with the tail of RS712 in the corner of the photo, as RS712 was parked right in front of where I was in the crowd line.

As i recall the Concorde was a Father’s Day special flight. So it was a Sunday AND a father’s day.

And I think the Phantom fell off the end of the runway and was unable to leave Biggin until later the following week.

I was at the 1986 show too (and not any other years close to 1986), and none of that looked familiar. On the Saturday in 1986 we got the Concorde with 2 Spitfires, and I also remember seeing a Grumman Widgeon (yellow). I would definitely have remembered seeing a 74 Squadron Phantom – in 1986 I think it was from no. 56.

Pretty sure it’s the 1985 show.
Was there in ’86 and it was sunny!

1987 would have been the debut of the Blenheim. for its few weeks it was in the air.

Spitfire 50th.

I went to the May 1986 event and the main pull was the gathering of Spitfires to celebrate the type’s 50th anniversary. It was the biggest group in one place I’d seen up until then. I took loads of photos, currently in a storage container on the opposite side of the world – not much help! I think it was also the day the OFMC P-51 ended up in a hole having run off the runway and ended up being craned out.
