Not sure if this has been mentioned before….
Check out Google maps for Biggin Hill.
Air Fair taking place, with the Red Arrows on the runway.
Have not been the last couple of years so not sure when.
Due to the high number of Spitfires and Hurricanes I would guess last year!

You’re quite correct – 13th & 14th June 2015! 😉

Next year’s show is June 13th.
Oh round objects, that’s Cockpitfest weekend I think.

I hope his plans go well. The Biggin shows were one of the things I looked forward to in the 1960’s & ’70’s. I doubt if we will see a Lincoln on the flight line again then, or a display by a Court Lines Tristar… Happy days.

Nice to know at least one local is in favour of bringing back an airshow to Biggin. I wish him every success in achieving his aims.

We have had a leaflet through the door about the development proposals for Biggin Hill Airport. Within it there is a list entitled “Our pledges to the local community”. Pledge 8 is ” Annual Festival of Flight protected-…”
They are holding Public information Display days this week in the Flying Club building however there is no more on display than there is in the leaflet. There were people to talk to though and it seems that there is a positive commitment to the annual airshow.

From what he was saying at the Festival of flight show when I spoke to him he was very positive and was hoping for another event next year and hopefully a better one, But they do need to sort the traffic problems!
Next year’s show is June 13th.

Unless it is PR flannel he sounds like the sort of opened minded and positive MD a few other institutions/companies could do with. It will be very interesting to see how things develop over the coming months.

If you load it through the downloaded Google Earth, rather than via Google Maps website, it tells you the imagery date at the bottom – 27th June 2010.

Definately last year, my Spitfire is there, alongside TFH Hurricane just north of the VC10, behind the crowd line.

Oh yes, well spotted.
As I live nearby I looked to see if they have updated my photo too but they haven’t. On closer inspection I see they have only updated the airfield site. If you look at the shadows on the airfield the sun is pretty well due south but look at the tree next to the Main Road at the southern end of the runway the shadow cast is from a sun in the east.
And when are they going to update the 1945 maps to show the village?
Tony
PS. It’s interesting seeing what types of aircraft are there. 🙂

The other Red can be seen to the north-east in a steep turn.

Darn it!! You beat me to it Warbert. But I was going to ask why there are only 8 reds landing? There is another by the hanger where the VC10 is but don’t they normally send 10 to displays? Or wasn’t there one year when they only had 8 displaying as a result of an accident?

You are lucky down there,we have Leuchars and its under threat..Great political idea .Loads of QRA sorties so we will shut it so the planes that will carry on the missions will need to fly further..Probably from France if the carrier rumours are true..

I think you are right. No Vulcan. Lots of Spits, the Belgian F16 taxying out and having been there last year and the year before I would guess the Sunday last year which was under a cloudless, burning hot sky.
Just makes me even sadder that the plug has been pulled on this iconic airshow.:(
