Biggin Hill Replica on the Move

Saw the Spitfire on the back of a lorry at the end of the A21 near the M25 junction at about 2 pm this afternoon.

Do not know where it is off too.

Begs the question why did they get rid of it if was in such good condition!!!

I suppose the answer might be obtained if we knew who “they” are.

Every time I read the title of this thread, my first thought is “Why would anyone want to move a Benny Hill replica?”…

As Baz said to his visitor the other day, the Poles made a valuable contribution to the war effort and should not be ignored and have every right to be displayed alongside the rest of the allies.

I’ll get my coat…..

Why did they have to remove these aircraft 2 months before the replacements are going up, surely they could have waited a bit and not left the front of the station looking so bare?

It’s a good thing they weren’t plastic Nimrods – then the wait for replacements would have been even longer!

Looking at the dereliction of the rest of the site I don’t think it makes any difference if they are there or not!

I think they have to get them ready for Legends 🙂

I’m sure they had their reasons but I agree, it looks strange not to have any planes there.

And the fence could do with a bit of rust treatment.

Local paper confirms that there are 2 new replicas on order and should be in place by July 1st. The 2 replacements, 32nd Sqdn Hurricane and 92 Sqdn Spitfire, will be authentic reproductions of the planes that were stationed at Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain.

Yes saw the crane lifting them from the south side of the airfield.

They are both being replaced with Mk 1 replicas i believe? The spitfire is going in 92sqn markings the Hurricane i do not know, i’m sure somebody here will tell us more. (32 sqn maybe?)

Looks very strange with out them outside the Chapel.

If the markings are 92 and 32, then a very wise choice they are indeed!
