A great day at Biggin Hill today, although a little brisk. I think Autumn is upon us already unfortunately. Some excellent flying this year, and a nice wide range of aircraft to drool over both in the air and static. Superb performances by both F-16s (awesome! 😀 ), Skyraider/Avenger pair (nicely matched 😎 ), Will Curtis Su26 (body breaking aeros 😮 ), BBMF synchro (precise), RAF Tucano (some brilliant angles), RN Lynx Pair (not usually one for egg beaters, but very impressed with these) and of course Ray Hanna closing the show in ‘434, breathtaking and poetic.
Interesting pairing of the Do24 and Rasta Cat, and excellent to see the Sea Hawk and Sea Fury back in the air again. Great work by the RNHF and well done to them for getting them there today.
The rest of the regulars were also top notch, Tornado, Red Arrows, Utterlly butterlys, Harrier etc.
However, the warbird scramble was a little dissapointing. Only two passes I think, and that was that.
These are some photos taken by a good friend of ours who has just ‘gone digital’. What do you think? Considering he’s only had the camera for a week!

Very Good Chris. You’re head-one shot of the Reds is outstanding!
Twas a great show, Sea Fury and Sea Vixen were my favorits, Ray Hanna was perfect as ever…..BUT dont you think that the heart has been sucked out of Biggin Hill? Maybe its just me, but it seems to have lost its place a little.
After the show we stopped off at the White Hart, (my first visit) only to find a chain-operated bar and a photograph of the original black-out board with no soal whatsoever. A little dissapointing. 🙁

We could see the red arrows doing their thing from my rooftop in central London! Must be at least 10 miles to Biggin from where I live.
Pity we couldn’t see the BBMF as well!

I really like the head-on shot of the Red Arrows – very dramatic and well-taken!
For the propeller aircraft pix, your friend might want to reduce the shutter speed to allow more “blurring” of the propellers to show more sense of movement.
To show you what I mean, I took these pictures below in 1990 during my visit to some of the airshows commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. I set the shutter speed at 1/125 of a second and my film speed was set to ASA 100:

The scans aren’t the best but you can see the more blurry effect of the props at the lower shutter speeds.
Have fun shooting and experimenting with the new digital cam! 😀 😀

Superb photos.
I’d totally agree with your comments. I thought that the show was great, but I was also disappointed that after they got 8 Spits and 2 Hurricanes up in a mass takeoff, they only did two circuits before landing.
Ray Hanna’s display was marvellous at the end (but I’m sure that’s no surprise to anyone reading this !)
