Binter Canarias fleet renewal

Binter Canarias, a scheduled Spanish regional airline has ordered six ATR 72-500 aircraft as part of a fleet renewal plan. The airline currently operates both ATR 72-200 and ATR 72-500 series types and will take delivery of the new aircraft between May 2004 and February 2005.

The airline carries approximately 2.4 million passengers per year and is owned by a consortium of Canary Island investors who purchased the airline from Iberia in March 2002.

Binter Mediterraneos are still part of Iberia i believe with Canerias remaining preivatly ovned. Notice on the above photo the differance in the aircraft tails. The first one i believe is the old tail scheme, and the one behind the newer one which was launched in 2002.

It certainly does have a great livery to look at when that sun is shining

Ah… that crash was Binter Mediterraneos. Are they still owned by Iberia or did the entire group fall into Canarian hands ? Interesting quote from the accident report.. “The pilot erroneously shut down both engines”.

No doubt I’ll be seeing some of their fleet at TFS next week.:D

Didn’t one of their pilots plant one just short of the threshold a few years ago ? I could be wrong, anyone remember ?

I quite often sit at the hold watching them wang it round on very short finals wondering what their ops manuals say about stabilised approaches!

They certainly do provide some interesting photo opertunities as they turn onto finas at just about over the threshold as some airports! Always love seeing those aircraft in the Caneries!

LOL, but they are always fun to watch. Binter pilots seem to ex fighter jocks or something. The turn on did was really gut wrenching.

Whatever they get I hope they paint something interesting to look at on the arse end as that’s all we get to see every time we go to the Canaries. The Islands controllers are really bad for delaying everything else in order to squeeze in Pedro from Las Palmas on a 50 mile final while you drag it in with full flap and burning shed loads of fuel. Wouldn’t mind so much if we weren’t so damned fair back in the UK!

Cool. But the current -500 series will stay? I always found it a nice airline. Probably because I like going to the Canaries.
