You have it your way Lance, I was writing mine for the Greenock Telegraph, the Paisley Daily Express and the Wishaw Advertiser…:D;) The Dundee Courier on the other hand may have liked your’s more but may have added “Jings Crivvens Help Ma Boab !!!” at the beginning…:p
“Jings Crivvens Help Ma Boab???”
Sounds more like Dudely D Watkins to me. 😀
He was born in Manchester, you know.

Same s**t, different pile. 6 or half a dozen. 6 and two 3s
So what?
Exactly. It’s cr@p. That’s why we should ignore all journalistic garbage like that.
Glad we agree on something

“…By The Bye” would have been even better. 😉

Just do a Google search on “anti-airbus” and you’ll soon see what I’m getting at.
Just google anti-boeing and you’ll see the same thing.

It’s alliteration, actually. :p
Standard practice for headline writers.
I had considered alliteration, but thought rhyme might a more “layman” term to use. Keep it simple 😉

That’s just a rhyme to make the headline roll of the tongue easier and therefore make it more interesting.

I think that in this case, referring to the US Airways A320 in New York can be justified. The newspaper is simply trying to emphasise just how catastrophic this incident could have been. After all, we’re not seeing just a couple of birds being sucked into an engine, but instead a couple of hundred of the things.

Precisely

I don’t think it has anything to do with anti-airbus attitudes… it’s just trying to make it seem like more of a big deal.
It happens all the time in the UK… you get an article about a little local flood and they compare it to a major flood in cornwall a couple of years ago to make it seem like a bigger deal
By: Bmused55 - 1st October 2009 at 15:16
No it is not.
The media will often add a little tid-bit at the end of an article about a similar incident (regardless how slight the similarity) that may have happened in recent history, particularly those well reported such as the hudson case.
For example: they did it with the BA777 hard landing at Heathrow… every single aircraft incident article for the following 12 months ended with “A BA 777 crash landed at heathrow…… yadda yadda”
By: Bograt - 1st October 2009 at 12:53
if i read another inconsequential bird strike report with a closing remark comparing it to the hudson crash i think i’m going to scream!
It’s just the usual media Airbus-bashing. Mostly propaganda out of the USA. They did the same over the A340 ground accident at TLS in 2007, making out that it was all covered up.
