If anyone can add to the information I already have then please do. The more information I can gather about these men the better. I hope to produce a book about the local burials and hope to extend this to take in other areas. Perhaps it may only turn out to be an information leaflet but any help will be gladly welcomed. If anyone can point me in the right direction to find more information and facts on these airmen then please do. I dont have all the answers but I hope to do the memory of these brave souls some justice.

Thanks for looking.

Lynn is my youngest uncle. His father married the village school teacher not long after his wife died, and had two further children in 1906 (my father) and 1908. The age on the stone is wrong, as you have already found out. He lied about his age and joined up to be with his older brother Lloyd in the Canadian army, but transferred to the RFC which later became the RAF. I was fascinated to read details of the crash in your thread, as I saw part of a Bristol F2 from WWI in the Cdn. War Museum in Ottawa not long ago. If you have any questions or would like further information, I would be happy to provide anything I can.

Well the Kiel mutiny took place around this date. I dont know if a Bristol F2b could have reached Keil or done any damage. I think a Bristols range was 369 miles and Kiel is 518 miles which after allowing for wind and diversions from a straight line does not leave much room for a middle of North Sea interception. I would have thought that Sopwith Cuckoos would have dropped torpedoes but their range was about 330 miles. See this page for a potential way that Cuckoos could have been used in such a raid. http://davidcowdrey.webs.com/185landtorpedosqdrn.htm.
I havn’t read about F2bs at East Fortune but perhaps someone could identify the unit? a canadian pilot 2ndLt Keirruish was killed at EF in a F2b in 1918. www.samfoundation.ca/RNAS_CdnsKilled.pdf

Just to add some more information to the accident of Lt Bissell and Lt Bragg.

31/10/1918:- Setting off in Bristol F2b Serial B8942, on a bombing raid over the German Fleet, while climbing out from East Fortune stalled and entered a side slip. Crashed upon which a bomb exploded killing both men.

This would seem to tie up the reason both men were buried in the same plot in the cemetery.

Is there any way of telling where the German fleet were at the time of this raid and possibly what the fleet consisted of that day?

Is the any way of knowing any more information of this raid?
