Bit of advice needed!!

My mum god bless her brought home a digital camera/camcorder from Hong Kong and said there you are son work it for me!
I am not particularly up on digital cameras as I do not own one so it is proving a bit troublesome.
She has bought a Fujitac DVC 9600 which is obviously some kind of platform camera never having heard of them here.
It has 6.6 megapixels and has an eight times digital zoom.
I have worked out how to take pics but cant seem to get the flash to come on, all indoor pictures are coming out lacking colour.
Biggest problem however is that when I use the digital zoom everything goes out of focus.
Any advice particularly on the zoom matter?
