BLACK BUCK operation details

I have been reading Tim Lammings excelllent V FORCE book, which has a small section on the “BLACK BUCK” falklands raid, and to get a little more gen on the complicated in-flight refuelling mission i came across this RAF site….
http://www.raf.mod.uk/falklands/bb.html What a massive operation it really was, I was amazed just how big of an acheivment it was when i read the actual facts and figures 😮 I think my next reading matter will be the VULCAN 607 book

When you do read Vulcan 607 make sure you are doing nothing for the next day or so as you wont put it down!

Jon

I can vouch for that but better make it 2 days as you’ll want to read it again to make sure it all sank in the first time.

Vulcan 607

I read this last summer and it gives what I thought was an excellent account of the build up to Black Buck 1 as well as the raid itself. This includes coverage of the hurdles that had to be overcome to get the aircraft and aircrew up to speed on in-flight refuelling, and the problems experienced during the raid.

Highly recommended – buy it now!

Newark Air Museum have a series of Vulcan related lectures planned for later this year, which follows on from the brilliant night last May that covered Vulcan Operations and the Black Buck Raids. You get the chance to ask those involved about the Raids etc. Details are on their website at

http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/specialevents.htm

But here’s what it says:

“A series of talks based on the Avro Vulcan during five decades of service with the RAF has been arranged at the Holy Trinity Community Centre, Boundary Road, Newark, NG24 4AU.

22 May 2008 @ 2000 hours – Flying the Vulcan – by Group Captain John Laycock.

21 August 2008 @ 2000 hours – Fighting the Vulcan – by Squadron Leader High Prior.

20 November 2008 @ 2000 hours – Showing the Vulcan – by Squadron Leader David Thomas.

There will be just 200 places available for each talk and tickets will cost just £5.00 per person. Details of ticket availability will be announced shortly on the News Page of the website”.
