Thanks for the comments re the Mossie photo.
Attached are two photos of P-47 KJ348. This was the personal mount of Sqdn Ldr D.H.Clarke DFC AFC. He was the CFI of 73 fighter OTU, Fayid. On the nose panel just visible is the Ace of Spades Death’s Head insignia. Somewhere I have photo of the C.O’s Spitfire in the same colour scheme.
Next weeks photo – Night photo of Sunderlands at Pembroke Dock.

Thanks for the link Mark 12, I hadn’t seen it. As you know, this is a well known a/c. Thought I would share these photos as they were retrieved from a loft in Warwickshire. I scanned from the originals, photos taken by a pupil pilot on the unit who I got to know. The colour on the leading edge a fuselage stripe was red.

Any of the black Spitfire in the same scheme?

Looks great – any idea what the other colour is (around the cowling and reaching back along the fuselage). Yellow? Gold? I’ll bet someone here is good at translating B&W into colour.

BB–
Wow! Now there’s a way to paint one’s P-47…especially if one were game to turn a pylon or two at Reno. That is just superb; thanx for posting the pix. You say there was a Spit in the same scheme…and this was in the Mideast? I’ll bet that Spit would have been the inspiration for Ezer Weizman’s famous Israeli AF “Black Widow” Spitfire…even the T-Bolt in this livery made me think of old “20:57”.
Cheers
