hi,
just for information- the 1st raid was split into 2-
1st Schweinfurt raid 17/8/43. 36 lost.
7 Cat.E
118 damaged.
362 MIA.
Regensburg. 17/8/43-
24 lost.
1 Cat.E.
50 Damaged.
200 MIA.
2nd Schweinfurt. 60 lost.
17 Cat.E.
138 Damaged.
594 MIA.
That’s why the 2nd raid was labelled Black Thursday, the losses were that bad the 8th did not mount another raid till the 20/10/43, the positive from it was that the long range “little friends” came into being, so the P.51’s with drop tanks escorted on deep penetration missions, without having to turn back and leave the bombers.

Didn’t Realise it was a question.
But the answer is
October 14, 1943, when the Allied air forces suffered large losses during bombing in the Second Raid on Schweinfurt during World War II
And the next Black Thursday will be
The night of 16/17 December 1943, when RAF Bomber Command losses during the Berlin bombing campaign were particularly high due to combat losses and bad weather over home airfields.

Yes, 72 years ago would make it 1943 wouldn’t it; never heard any of the Schweinfurt-Regensburg missions referred to as ‘Black Thursday’ before?
