For many years around 1965..8 there was a dark blue Dragonfly helicopter parked between the hangers at Squires Gate. Always wondered what it was ident wise and what happened to it? Never saw it fly and it was partially covered in tarps.

hi,
about 1962ish this was at the back of ANT hangar, also I think was G-APXX Drover, back then all was innocent, allowing a young lad to wander around the hangar… fond memories.
regards,
jack…

The Dragonfly you mention was WG661. It moved by road to Baginton still in full RN colours. Shortly after it went to Woburn where it was to have been installed as a plaything. I assume it was eventually scrapped. I do have a b&w image I took of it at Coventry (Baginton) but presently that material is in storage or I would share it here. Here is a link to images of it when it was at Blackpool then another at CVT:

At the risk of thread drift but those were good days at Squires Gate. I was a bit earlier (57-63) and Arnold no longer exists as such. There was always something going on with Russell Whyham and later Brian Bateson. Quality not quantity was the watchword.

Yes ,Ozplane, my last few years were at the new Palatine 67…69 with lunchtime bike rides to check what was at SG, the Lanc was just over the fence.

No help at all really but I guess it was one of Russell Whyham’s acquisitions. ANT still exist so perhaps they could help? BTW were you at school in Blackpool? I was just down Lytham Road at Arnold so Squires Gate was on my way home.
