The Helicopter Museum took delivery of the former RAF Bloodhound gate guardian today for its new Weston Aviation History Exhibition, being developed in the restored WW2 Pilots block adjacent to the original museum site. The missile Gosling rocket booster motors were manufactured locally and of course the Bloodhound itself was assembled only 20 miles away!
The complete exhibition should open in March.

The Boost Motors (bar filling) were made at the Aerojet Factory between Locking and Banwell just off Locking Moor Road
Shortlly after Woolwich Arsenal closed and before it was sold for housing I went on a guided tour.
Someone asked about the possibility of there being any explosives remaining on site. The guide fairly smugly explained that we wouldn’t have been allowed there if there were and the site had been cleared. I, equally smugly, pointed out the trailer stacked with live Bloodhound booster rockets. I think his underpants went brown.

The Boost Motors (bar filling) were made at the Aerojet Factory between Locking and Banwell just off Locking Moor Road which is the road that the museum is entered from. Directly on the other side of Locking Moor Road was RAF Locking were most of the Electronics Technicians who worked on Bloodhound did their Trade Training. The missile they have got is the former gate guard from RAFM Hendon.

They teased this yesterday on social media with a picture of one being lugged around by a Belvedere. I honestly thought the Belvedere was the more likely acquisition! Good news though, I wasn’t aware of the local connection.
