Bloody Farnborough Advert

Right. That’s been on the header for less than a day, and I’m sick of it already. Every time I misjudge my mouse movement onto the ‘Key Publishing Forums’ link, the bloody advert pops up.

Bored of it now.

Webbie, can it be moved across a bit, to somewhere where my wide sweeping mouse movements won’t keep bringing it to life?

Please…?

Similar to Ad-aware, Rob, but I use both. They are complementary, each finds bits the other doesn’t.
Another link. Free (really) anti-virus software available here:

If you click on the bit to the right (which was a boxed red x for me) it takes you through to a mirrors site – from where you can download it.
It is going very slowly through my system now…

In similar vein, to help repair all the problems that IE and OE cause, I highly recommend Spybot:
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
It’s free, if you want it to be, and you’ll be amazed how many things it finds that shouldn’t be there.
A tip, don’t use advanced, use easy mode. I do, and I repair, build and drive PCs for a living. With varying degrees of success, I might add.

I agree, Firefox is very good. They don’t think it’s finished yet, current release is 0.8 but I’ve found no problems.
Their Thunderbird email client looks promising too. Anything’s got to be more secure than Outlook Express.

A couple of weeks back some wormy virusy thing hijacked my Internet Explorer and kept setting some crummy search engine as the home page instead.

I talked to one of the teccies I know and he suggested I swop to Mozilla Firefox which (he said) is better and less attackable than IE.

I have a natural resistance to all this stuff, and if one more four-eyed geek nerd tells me how wonderful Linux is, I’ll do for him with a blunt axe…

but…

This teccie was right. 😮

Firefox downloads easily, installs itself without any fuss. It is a small programme, but with a raft of add-ons that you can choose from and then install and deinstall as you wish.

Today the Farnborough thing caused me to use the adblocker for the first time ever.

It works, and its easy.

At the risk of sounding like a Linux geek….

GET FIREFOX

Get it

It doesn’t bother me, at least not as much as those pop-up ads.

Live with it. We don’t pay to be here so Keys are getting money from elsewhere.
Its just the way the cookie crumbles…

when you are slumped on an armchair there’s no room for a mouse, and too lazy for proxies, hence the slumped posture :p

And to think that this weekend, me and my hand-eye coordination will be up in the Cambridgeshire skies.

That is, indeed, very worrying… 😮
