Hmmm look how far we are offthe topic. Heres an idea. Someone needs to come in and sack all the numbskulls who have been making the decisions for bmi but not before they all get a slap in the head and told they are a bunch of incapable ********. Then the arse needs to be ripped out of the airlines all the crap gotten rid of,cost base flattened, forget about Long haul at LHR and concentrate on somthing that possible like MAN. Then the grass is green again and they are on the way.

I think it’s time we left danairboy alone now, chaps.

Especially since he’s not here to defend himself.

Elgan and Mark L …. how long are those signatures of yours going to get?

They’re becoming a bit obtrusive now, you know. 🙂

It is quite a unexpected and shocking move. From my understanding DUB will lose it business class flight from LHR which will meen there will be only 2 airlines operating business class flight on Europes busiets route by PAX numbers and they are BA and AF/WX.
bmi simply offered somthing different that the people liked and now that they are going no frills they are simply the same as U2 or FR but they will still hang onto alot of PAX from Star connections.
No more of the paninis.

Aren’t signatures limited to a certain number of characters? As long as the font isn’t too large, surely it’s ok, no?

“New fares from £25 one way”

You mean the same ones you have been advertising for the last year then?

So is bmibaby still bmibaby or just bmi? it seems pointless having the baby brand if you ask me but are they keeping it for the hell of it?

Danairboy still amazes me, moaning about how he and his Granny didnt like the fact they had to pay for drinks and food on bmi baby to Spain. Why the hell does he fly with them if he hates them that much! Because he wont pay for a full service airline, so he’ll fly a cheap one and moan about all the stuff that makes them cheap.

You can just see him on every low cost flight, pretending he doesn’t know theres no ‘free’ drinks and food, ‘Last week when I flew BA on MAN-LGW I got a full English Breakfast’.

Such a weirdo, glad hes outta here!

it was called Diamond Service, it included full meals – and it was excellent and it was what differentiated British Midland from the rest and that SERVICE was what helped make them what they became.

Totally agree with you Andy. If it wasnt for the Diamond Service that i tased when i flew 4 times with BMA from EMA in the 90’s, i wouldnt be an avid follower of BMA/bmi, and i dont think i’d even want to fly with them.
They left an excellent impression on me, and i was only like 9 or 10 years old!
Flights like that stick in your mind.

Same with the ORD/IAD flights i encountered in 2003, excellent service, great reputation, which sadly is being thrown away, in a bid to make a profit out of an airport, where they are now going to make a loss.

I’m sure Mr Branson will be looking at his account, in a bid to merge the airlines, which i’m sure will happen sooner rather than later!

They just haven’t got a clue. Its sad to see what BMI have become. Just as the likes of Swiss put BACK inclusive catering because they’re realised that payed-catering doesn’t work for a “business” airline, so BMI do the opposite – snatch defeat from what could have been a victory. I predicted some time ago that the new model would be that they were effectively seeking to become “the low fares airline at LHR” and that’s just what they are aiming for. Shame. They had a single cabin before – it was called Diamond Service, it included full meals – and it was excellent and it was what differentiated British Midland from the rest and that SERVICE was what helped make them what they became. Now they look for the lowest common denominator. They may pick up some punters in the really cheap seats at the back, but they’re also saying that they’re keeping flexible economy fares – sorry, but why should I pay the same for less?

So, business class and full / high economy fare payers to BA or other European airlines, really cheap fares still lower on Easy and or Ryan, and bmi left to pick up a few dregs in the middle. This will take them down, not up.

Andy

Surely it would be easier to just merge the bmibaby brand into bmi, so they operate under one name. As it is many bmi fares are cheaper than that of baby, so with this new lo-co approach they are effectively the same airline. It must cut administrative costs having just 2 brands- bmi & bmi regional- instead of 3.

I really hope this works for bmi, but I’m sure my (many) bosses at Waterside are rubbing their hands with glee at the moment.

I’m sure BA bosses slept well last night, knowing they’ll see some nice easy money being taken off bmi, as bmi’s biz pax go over to BA 😮

I’m guessing that bmi want to take passengers from the established loco’s by offering the appeal of LHR. Of course they run the risk of alienating everyone, business class to BA etc and everyone else to the loco’s, especially if their new lower fares aren’t low enough.

They are talking about lead fares of £25 one way plus tax which is good compared with say the current LHR-MAN lead fare of £105, but still not great compared with the likes of Jet2 to LGW, or even BA’s lead fare to LHR and LGW of £59 inc tax and frills (even if it is the off-peak All Day Deli service!).

Not sure about the 4 routes keeping business class. Obviously they are keeping the good performers, but they don’t fit any kind of pattern.

LBA-LHR-BRU, one class then two class.
GLA-LHR-AMS, two class then one class.

Most of our business class passengers wouldn’t dream of travelling economy, especially when their company is paying. If people use other carriers on routes where bmi have dropped business class, then loyalties (and mileage accounts) may well change and in the long run the few routes left with business class may well suffer too.

I really hope this works for bmi, but I’m sure my (many) bosses at Waterside are rubbing their hands with glee at the moment.
