Hey all, bmibabys summer 2006 flights go on sale from BHX & EMA tomorrow, and then from CWL, MAN & MME the day after. The usual website guff says they’ll be having their largest ever network with even more destinations and frequencies. Obviously theres going to be hefty expansion at BHX where they’re supposed to get up to 20 routes by winter 2006. Does anyone have any ideas about which new routes will be served? I’m guessing the usual Spanish coast and southern France routes. But I also read today on airliners.net that from summer 06 a 3rd aircraft will be based at CWL 😀 . I have to say this surprised me alot, but I can’t wait to see if it’s true, because if it is then CWL is guarenteed more European routes- with 6G operating most of babys UK & Irish routes, they can only be used for more further afield destinations. Any ideas on what will be announced? Can’t wait!!!!!! Also, any ideas for MAN & MME?

ok i stand corrected 🙂
By: Manston Airport - 28th November 2005 at 22:59
Wrong…..
There is one CEO for the entire bmi group, but each business unit (bmi, bmibaby and bmi regional) have their own MD (baby and regional) or Chief Operating Officer (bmi).
Well thats good im sure I was right .I saw it in an airline magzine article but that is a year old so i asked just incase.

So getting long-haul routes from a two-million population market isn’t amazing? Having two low-costs (baby and Thomsonfly) go head to head isn’t amazing? Don’t be embarrassed by your loyalty to CWL – it’s quite justified!

QUOTE/:Mr Bryon said bmibaby is also looking into introducing other routes such as Brussels, and is working with the National Assembly to determine which routes might bring the biggest benefit to the region, but more expansion will only be confirmed once demand for them has been established.

Baby cheif exec says they are actively considering basing a fourth a/c at CWL. Does this mean baby are getting more a/c overall? I guess they’d have too.
Is Baby cheif exec the cheif exec for BMI and bmi Regional.

Just checked some CWL frequencies and the weekday timings to AMS are ridiculous. Once daily, CWL-AMS 19:00, AMS-CWL 21:50.That is useless for business pax and the leisure market isn’t that great on weekdays.
By: Spence_CWL - 18th November 2005 at 10:48
Thats what we’re praying for. It might even be better for some other regioanal carriers to come in and compete with 6G, beat them, and 6G pack it in. Then we can finally have some consistency. Thats what will happen unless 6G have a serious rethink. The BFS routes are actually well used by business pax, but the leisure timings do have some trouble.
By: allmcc - 18th November 2005 at 10:44
Having had a quick look at the BFS 06 summer schedule, I can’t help but think that WW seem to have adopted a “headless chicken” approach. Now that the 6G codeshare is coming to an end, frequency is dropping from 2X weekdays to 1X with a late afternoon timing – one wonders what type of passenger WW are trying to attract – leisure perhaps but these timings and frequency will be useless to business pax.
I recall 6G operating CWL – BHD up until 2003 at 2X weekdays – then WW came along and started CWL – BFS. 6G continued for a while then pulled the BHD. Initially, WW used a 735 which they could seldom fill. They then set up the codeshare with 6G and the fare levels increased significantly. Even now 6G have trouble filling an ATR42. Now fares are dropping but so is frequency – what is going on??
Perhaps it is time that another operator with a modicum of common sense took over operating a 2X weekday and 1X at weekends to BHD with a sensible fare structure – would seem to be an ideal vehicle for Air Southwest. Somebody needs to come in and sort out this shambles!

Any timetable yet or frequencies?
Pity Prague hasn’t returned and I can’t believe we’re focussing on Knock and Cork. Lets get to the med more BMI Baby!!!

😮 No fair! If they’d operated that this year from CWL I could have gone over to see the Blues play in the heineken Cup! ah well. An interesting route indeed. Is this them serving Perp becuase they think it’s a good destination in it’s own right, or is this a cheaper option than flying to TLS?

Any news on the routes for MME’s two aircraft next summer
ORK, JER, LGW, NQY, NOC (NEW ROUTE), CDG, ALC, AGP & PMI.

Because BMI have been in business (in one form or another) since 1938 (Air Schools operating out of Burnaston), and are not a charity or a company to satisfy every reggie spotter’s wish list from obscure regional airports. They exist to make money…nuff said.
Yes but their routes from CWL do make money and lots of it- it’s not like CWL is a tiny part of their operation. As it stands next summer it will make up 17.6% of their total number of weekly flights, and most of those will be nearly full. It’s hardly small change is it.

I was at the airport yesterday (flying to AMS) and noticed less than 12 people boarded a 737 to Cork! Crazy.
