BMI Baby so-called free tickets!

My partner travels reagularly for business, usually he flies LBA-EDI with BD but on occasion he has flown with Baby EMA-EDI often so its affordable for me to go up with him and do a spot of shopping and come back down in the evening. I am never impressed with the service or the rather worn interior and exterior of their 735s but it does sometimes make for a nice day out!

He got an e-mail from them yesterday telling him about the free flight offer. When he went online to look at them, he found that the fares had either gone or were only available one way free and the return trip was always rather expensive or vice-versa. The tax of course had to be added and all told they arent much cheaper than BD or BA on the equivalent route provided booked well in advance.

These so called cheap deals arent what they seem, are they?

It was my partner who was looking at BMIbay fares, not myself! He has to travel regularly to EDI on business and his expenses budgets wont always stretch to Business Class BMI. Also, as I said, if its cheap I go with him and do some shopping, have a day out in EDI.

I stand by my previous posts, there is no way I would take a no-frills airline for a holiday or anything.

Dannyboy,

I forgot to mention to you that my partner and I are off to ALC on ZB for a weekend break, using our annual 85% discounted confirmed seats and that, as we are both Monarch staff, we still get our food onboard for free! So there you go, all you need to do to get your free food on your Monarch flights, is to get a job with us. 😉

BUT ALL AIRLINES DO IT!

………including those who give you “free” meals!!!. How come you are now looking to book all these lo-co flights, when you have spent your time on here protesting about them so much and have previously stated that you avoid them at all costs? I think Kev35 has given a good bit of advice there. Should that not be a suitable solution for you, try www.thetrainline.com. – but be warned, you’ll pay more on the train in most cases and you have to pay for your food and they have a bad reputation for being late. I think you should fly, enjoy it and well, no, that would be it – fly and enjoy. Think happy thoughts! 😀

danairboy.

Forgot to say you would never have a problem with BMIbaby losing your suitcases because according to you there are no tickets.

danairboy.

Why do you think the line was constantly engaged? Demand? Not enough operators? Or because no-one is trying to book tickets? You know there are ALWAYS terms and conditions so why are you making such a fuss? Obviously cost and money is the most important factor for you. You’ve already complained about the state of their aircraft so why do you want to fly with them anyway? You pays your money and takes your choice. If the ‘dirty’ state of the aircraft offends you then it’s really quite simple…..

FLY ANOTHER AIRLINE!!!!!

It’s not exactly rocket science.

I have tried to ring BMIBaby as I have failed to find any fares which match what was advertised, funny thing but the phone line was constantly engadged. |I hung on for 20 mins before abandoning the call. I am so angry I am putting pen to paper and also writing to the Advertising Standards Authority.

No other industry gets away with it. If I go to Tesco and a tin of beans is 30p, I dont expect to get to the till and find it is 39p.

Tour operators also do this dont they? Holidays advertised at £199, then you find their is a booking fee and a compulsory ticket on departure charge. Its misleading!!

BMIbaby are the pitts. If I cant get through to make a reservation within 20 mins, how would I carry on if I had a complaint or one of my suitcases missing! No customer care at all!!!!

Danairboy,

you’ve been around a while now so surely you’ve worked out that a fare is the cost of the tickets and tax is added on. Thomsonfly do the same as do Ryanair, it’s nothing new. It’s just a game. How many companies list prices for goods and then in small print mention the VAT. The fares/taxes I’ve seen people mention on here seem perfectly reasonable to me. How many companies advertise Plasma tv’s for £599.00 and then you read there’s only one or two on offer. You miss the low fare you want but a good percentage of people still book at the next price. Ring Thomsonfly for a price on one of their flights and do it every few days and see the price rocket the closer you get to departure date.

Yep all airlines add taxes on. Youve got to remember, all the best flights will be gone in hours. When I looked I found a fair few free flights even at weekends. You have to be very quick off the mark.

Agree that all prices should be inclusive of “taxes”, though what they call tax and what is actually tax are two different things.

Its called “cooking the taxes” danairboy!

Most airlines do it. There are a couple of legitimate tax codes that can be used on airline tickets for the airline concerned to charge pretty much anything they want to which goes back into their own pockets, not the government or airports. Crazy isn’t it!

Its a big bloody con! I have no doubt that a tiny proportion of these free fares exist but the majority are taking up by employees their friends and family.

They are hardly free, either when over £30 in taxes are added to each flight. Why £7 onj expensive fares but £16 on the free ones????. Also there web site is down most of the booking period with overload problems.

The ASA should make all airlines show the full price, inclusive of taxes. After all you dont have a choice whether to pay or not do you!

That’s why the Jet2 low fare finder is the best system currently in use. Pick your month of travel and it tells you the cheapest ticket available for all the days, so you can decide your dates of travel based on the ticket price. Much better than spending hours on systems which give you the prices only for specific dates.
