Whilst browsing the superb http://www.lhr-lgw.co.uk website, I noticed that bmi have been chartering aircraft from Titan over the past few weeks. Examples of this are as follows:
G-POWC 05/01/2008
BD9669 BOH-LHR 0947A
BD163 LHR-PMI 1124D
BD164 PMI-LHR 1743A
BD9668 LHR-BOH 1914D
G-ZAPU 06/01/2008
BD9571 STN-LHR 0727A
BD7805 LHR-GVA 0855D
BD7806 GVA-LHR 1255A
BD9572 LHR-STN 1450D
Was just wondering what sort of cost bmi would be looking at for this kind of charter and if they’d still be turning a profit? I’d imagine this would only be done in extreme circumstances and would require a fairly high load factor to warrant it. Many thanks…

For a 757 bank on £2,000 – £2,500 per block hour (including positioning flights). Titan are normally at the top end of the price range. Titan, Monarch and Astraeus have all been operating quite a few flights for BA out of Gatwick recently due to crew shortages.

Can be quite expensive I would imagine. Wonder how much money BA lost for the CitiExpress/Connect operations when for days at a time it was necessary for either Flightline or Titan aircraft to operate for them. The “best” substitution was Titan operating a 757 on MAN-MAD

Titan will work for just about any one! Apparently! they can have a crew and an aircraft if its available on its way to a destination with in 2 hours of a call been made.
I would have thought BMI would only have to fork out for the chartering of the aircraft, crewing costs, handling fees etc, and make there profit from seat sales, exits, excess and other charges.
On another note didn’t know Titans 757s were ETOPS rated as it seems ZOOM are useing one to fly to JFK at the moment.
