BMI to start Heathrow-Jersey link
Victoria Moores, London (26Jan07, 10:18 GMT, 191 words)Star Alliance carrier BMI, which recently announced its plan to axe London Heathrow-Paris Charles de Gaulle, is expected to reveal a new Heathrow-Jersey link later today.
The Channel Island of Jersey was served from Heathrow by British Airways (BA) until around 2001, when the link was switched to London Gatwick.
A source close to BMI says it is planning to operate twice-daily services on the route from 25 March.
BMI will serve Heathrow-Jersey using an Airbus A319 in a two-class configuration to attract business travellers wanting to connect through Heathrow.
Details of the route are expected to be formally announced by BMI later today.
Jersey is served by Atlantic Express from Stansted; Belgian regional carrier VLM Airlines operates a service from London City; while BA and budget regional carrier Flybe offer a link from Gatwick.
Earlier this month BMI revealed that it was to drop its longstanding Paris-Heathrow route, which it has served since 1990, from 25 February due to increased air and rail competition. It is also axing its Leeds Bradford-Paris service.
The new Heathrow-Jersey service is likely to use some of the slots freed up by the Paris cancellation.

Atlantic Airlines
U.K.Commercials
The Stansted route was done by Atlantic Express not Atlantic Airlines for starters.
Atlantic Airlines is a freight operator with no connection to Atlantic Express or even Air Atlantique confused yet?
A lot of people think they are connected but they are not, other than they where the same colours and there is an Osprey on the tail.
The heavy freight division of the group a number of years ago had a management buy out and became Atlantic Airlines.

Atlantic Airlines have axed their service from Stansted recently and so BMI have a bit less competition.

Im sure this will be welcomed by Jersey Residents, particularly for transfer passengers. Its rare for a UK domestic link to LHR to be reinstated.

This is a surprise, but I guess it could be better than Paris. With no competition from Heathrow, I’m sure they can do well with this route.
I might even give Jersey a go when the new route starts. :p
