bmibaby reports major first half-year growth

Passenger numbers up 20.7% for January to June period

bmibaby, the UK’s fastest growing low cost airline and the biggest airline in the Midlands, has reported major growth for the first half of 2004. Flown passenger numbers were up from 1,266,396 in 2003 to 1,528,252 in 2004, an increase of 20.7%. During the same period the number of seats available for sale had been increased by 13%, showing that passenger growth was ahead of the extra capacity introduced in the market.

Tony Davis, managing director bmibaby, said:
” Contrary to what is being said about the low cost market and possible industry ‘victims’, bmibaby continues to deliver strong growth. We have achieved genuine double-digit growth without having to acquire other airlines. Our growth is entirely organic and we are selling all of the extra capacity that we are putting into the market and more.”

This coming winter bmibaby is set for further growth and expansion with the number of its UK bases increasing from five to six in January 2005, when the airline commences operations to nine destinations from Birmingham International Airport.

I’m guessing the most growth is at MAN & the least at CWL. What do you think are possible brand new routes?
Regards, Spence
