I have never owned a DVD player.
But with a well-recommended one on Amazon at £29.99 I have finally given-in and splashed out.
My question is, before I start dropping Crissy hints to all and sundry, is there just one version of the BoB on video, or is care needed in purchasing the right one?
Cheers 🙂

Any one know whats on the extras disk ?
If it’s the Bo B film, then theres the making of the film ,Authenticity in the air,a film for the Few,recollections of an Squadron Leader.Photo gallery,Theatrical trailer, the 2nd disc is worth the full price on its own 😀
Having just dug the dvd out i felt obliged to watch it 😀 i was surprised [not as much as the pilots] to hear about the time when they were formating for a shoot and a squadron of Vulcans climbed up at them out of the clouds.I wonder who was most surprised, the filming airforce seeing V Bombers or the V Bombers seeing WW2 aircraft ahead in formation,oh for some footage or photo’s 😮

Supposedly a lot of ‘the making of’ stuff…I would’nt know, I have the US version (which makes sense, since I LIVE in the US, just the basic movie on mine…) On the other hand, I have a DVD/VCR and love the thing…wonder if it would be worth removing the ‘region’ detector and ordering FL 2004 to see what I missed…but I still get to use my VCR movies instead of re-purchasing them all again on DVD…

I have both region 1 and 2, beware of getting the US version, it doesn’t contain the extras that appear on the UK Special Edition.

It is also available in a 3 disc set with A Bridge too Far and Great Escape but I think you miss out on the extras disc with this set so it may be worth making it clear to Santa that you want the 2 disc version.

Moggy, I am utterly shocked that you don’t have it already! 😮 😀
Just print this off for her and send her to the shops…. 😉

Ah, sorry, slip of the keyboard. I meant DVD not video. (It’s amazing how often I’ll say ‘tape’ when I mean CD on talking about listening to packaged music in-car, rather than broadcast)
Region isn’t a problem as included in the £29.99 (with delivery) is the fact it’s already multi region.
So all Mrs Moggy has to do is make sure it’s the actual 1960’s movie, easily spotted by a cast list with SY and all her little playmates and that’ll be the one huh?
Many thanks for that

DVD players can be funny old things, I sold one to a friend once and after a while everytime she used it the disc stopped working after about an hour. We took it into the workshops and it worked fine, put it back in her house the fault repeated itself, put it back in the workshop it worked fine and so this went on. We did a deal and now she has a nice one that plays all the time – and the one she had? A member of staff has it and it has never missed a beat. Be careful if your multi-regioning as it invalidates the manafactures warranty although if it’s on a £30 cheepy you can always get another one when it goes wrong.

About this “all regions” reprogramming being easy – I paid an extra 25 quid to remove the region blocking on my DVD when I bought it here in Sweden just over a year ago. I bought half a dozen DVDs in Canada and only 3 out of the 6 would play. On returning to the shop, they at first tried to convince me that the DVDs from Canada were pirated. Afterhalf an hour’s argument I convinced them to try to play them on one of their own deregionalised machines. They worked! Then they told me that they didn’t have the remote control required for reprogramming – nowhere in their chain of shops throughout all of Sweden! Finally (and this was after 3 hours in the shop) I told them to keep the DVD player until it worked properly and then phone me to tell me to collect it. It’s still there, a few days later, no phone call yet.
I hope this is an isolated incident, but it says little for the chain I bought it from, and the general knowledge of the people who “sell boxes” without understanding what they are selling.
Sorry, this came out longer than I expected, but I am a little peed off.

Moggy,
There are a few DVDs & videos about with the title ‘Battle of Britain’ or variants thereof, mostly documentaries, which might confuse a non-aviation minded buyer.
Best to make it clear you’re after the 2-disk DVD of the 1969 feature film, you should be okay then. You could always download & print off the cover of the film DVD & give that to the person who’s buying it to take with them to the shop.

Don’t worry, nurse will sort it out for him.

Funny, that is usually my job
JOB? You mean I could be getting PAID to do it? How? Where? etc… 😀
I need to go home – shall we let Moggy have his thread back now? Especially as he’s the moderator….

Don’t let the region thing bother you. They are generally very easy to ‘de-region’. We happily watch the copy of Finding Nemo that Carol bought in the US and that is not region 2.
