Bob Hope

I recently saw a very saddening article on MSN.com. Apparently the actor/comedian we’ve all known about for years, named Bob Hope has died at age 100. Bob Hope was always well-known for being hilariously funny. I used to love watching episodes of I Love Lucy when I was younger, and I remember him being in some of them.

He was one of the first entertainer’s to make continuous visits to the troops all around the world during World War II. He actually began that practice about 6 months before Pearl Harbor.

He’s certainly someone who will be missed. A sad day when such a great legend has to leave us….

All we can say is: Thanks for the memories.

May he rest in peace.

Q. Where do you want to be buried?

A. Surprise me

I think he only said that a few weeks ago.

Well, if he’s as funny as Jackass I’ve got to see him. Does he also electroshock his balls? 😀

I can’t say he ever made me laugh – i never heard a joke by him that wasn’t a new pinnacle of corniness.

The guy had absolutely great timing though, which certainly made him a great comedian in his days. But that was centuries ago. I think his reputation as an embassador from the nice and cosy homefront to the US troops far away in the fields (well-deserved in the days before G.I. Boum Boum and My Lai) did a lot more for the praise he currently gets. If you ask me, another part of America’s innocence has died with Bob Hope. And that’s a very sad thing.

WC Fields, or Andy Kaufman… now those were great!

Whilst I was sorry to hear of Bob Hope’s passing, I don’t think you could class him as a ‘Really funny man’, one of the finest ambassadors for entertainment yes, a man who was passionate about his fellow countrymen, a man who served his country and generally all round good egg, but funny no – not for me.
May he rest in peace.
The funniest man on this earth died last year, he’s now in the ninny nonny yang.

“I was of the opinion that everyone loved Bob Hope!”

Loved is a strong word for someone you don’t even know. I liked the fact that he would go out into war zones to entertain the troops, and his jokes were generally not new but he told them well.

The world doesn’t get reruns of old US TV shows (except MASH etc) So I really didn’t see many things with him in. The odd old movie or something, but certainly not regular enough to say he was a staple element.

BTW Didn’t George Burns die at 100 too?

I am sad he has passed away but I missed Jed of the “Beverly Hillbillies” passing more.

I didn’t really watch many Bob Hope movies, though I tried to see Beverly hillbillies as often as it was on TV.

Thanks for posting guys.

Boy I’d have thought this thread would have had a few more hits. I was of the opinion that everyone loved Bob Hope! He was just so damn funny. 🙂

Agree with you both.
But 100 years. Not bad going!
Hopefully we get to see some of his old movies. (And not just hear a few of his famous “oneliners”)

“They don’t make my bloodtype anymore”

Sad – yes. But good to remember that he had such a rich life.
