I sponsored F/O Donald Smith (ex 616 South Yorkshire Sqn) for my mate Jen, who some of you have met; she’s also a Smith, and lives in South Yorks, so there’s a connection there. However, since sponsoring F/O Smith’s name, I’ve been doing some research about him, to the point where we now know where he is buried and hope to go and visit him in the New Year. I’m also being put in contact with a couple of chaps who knew him, and hopefully we can meet them at the same time.

Sponsered Pilot.
Sponsered F/O S C Walch of 238 Hurricane Sqd, in September 2000.
The reason for that pilot, 1- He is listed as one of the Australian pilots who flew, and 2- in 1957 my parents purchased the Walch family home. When we moved in, the top sunroom had marked on the wooden door stile, the year and height of Stewart and his two sisters. The inscriptions stoped in 1938. When the house was sold some 40 years later the inscriptions were still there, and his younger sister, Brenda, pased away five years ago.

Thanks for drawing attention to this. My e-mail has been sent requesting details. I only wish I had found out earlier. I’ve asked to sponsor Plt Off Ian K Joll and/or Flt Lt George Powell-Sheddon. The former because he was in 604 Sqn along with my personal “hero” (hate that word), John Cunningham (he and Jimmy Rawnsley both sponsored already it would appear – would have been my first choices) and the latter because he flew with 242 Sqn at Coltishall – my “home” RAF base.

I use my own laminator – a Fellowes SXL 95, which does a pretty decent job – great for merit certificates from my daughters school as well!!! For them, not me that is 🙂

Re laminating.
I think Osbournes(spelling?)staitionery suppliers, do laminating i’m pretty sure they are a national chain, might be worth a look in yellow pages?!

the certificate laminates nicely
That is a good idea. Does anyone know of a place where a laminating service can be done? Any ‘High Street’ places?
By the way, I know that all the Poles had been sponsored.

Paul
