Funnily enough, I e-mailed Gerry earlier this morning with exactly the same suggestion!!! However, it doesn’t look quite right for Niven, somehow?

On the other hand, it could be a f… , oh…..never mind!!!:diablo:

The ear and nose just don’t look right for David Niven:

Re The Chap with Bob Stanford Tuck

David Niven, with that nose? Though in fairness, a quick glance; he could be mistaken for him perhaps.

Tangmere

That picture was sold on e-bay on 16 Jan for £21, signed by Tuck. It was described thus —-

a photograph featuring two of world war 2 greatest aces rr stanford tuck and the german adolf galland, taken after the war years probably in the early fifties, the photograph is signed by rr stanford tuck at the bottom of the picture, the ink is a bit faded but still good to look at,the photograph measures 21.5 cms x 17 cms high approx, on the reverse of the picture it has been stamped, copyright photograph eastern daily press norwich.thanks for looking at 1 of 6 pictures of both these aces.the pictures were taken supposadly at the dambuters bar??.

If it is not Galland, then someone is possibly guilty of fraud!

The two pictures appear to be taken at the same location/time – maybe a pub opening or something? Did Bob Stanford-Tuck ever do such things?

Bob Stanford Tuck

Having met Herr Galland on a couple of occasions, I can confirm that is definitely not him in the photo with Tuck. Mk.1

Well, the vendor may well have been under the impression that it was Galland and genuinely believed it to be so. Also, we don’t know what any caption to the reverse says. Again, it may have incorrectly stated it to be Galland and the vendor went with that. Who knows?

Either way – sold a pup? Probably not. I know the purchaser is pleased with his photograph of Tuck. It is just a mystery who the other man is. I suspect he may have no RAF connection at all. As has been suggested, looks as if it could be a pub opening of some sort.

FarlamAirframes photo features the same blackboard that was in a shot posted about a week ago, doesn’t it? I tried a search but couldn’t find it.

I’ve no idea who the other chap is, but even for 50’s England they do look well scrubbed as if it’s some official do or celebration, what with the button hole etc…
Is it an Officers Mess or servicemens club? Note the very ornate silver soda syphon holder (which probably wouldn’t last long in a pub!) and on the back of the spirits rack there is a stein, not a beer mug.
Does that help narrow down where it could be and therefore when?

Hi all,
I bought three from this collection last week.
I knew that the other chap wasn’t Galland but was stumped for an Identification.
I haven’t received them yet so can’t give an opinion on their quality/authenticity though I suspect they are genuine.
Fingers and legs crossed.
I’m a bit anxious now………………
combat report anyone?
