Here’s something I’d love to know the answer to as it’s been bugging me for some time now. In the August 2004 edition of Air International there’s an article concerning the history and development of Boeing jetliners. In the centrespread there’s a cutaway drawing of a 707-320C which shows ‘turbo compressor air intake’ (number 70 on the key). The port outer engine doesn’t have this compressor. This can also be seen clearly on many other photos including one in the same magazine on pages 36 & 37 of a Lufthansa 707-300.
Does anyone know why the port outer engine doesn’t appear to have this compressor?

707 turbo compressors
Thanks asmccuk, the search provided the answer. I thought that the T/C was for the engine’s function only. I didn’t realise that it could be used for other things like controlling cabin pressure.:p
So that’s another thing I’ve learnt today.

Boeing 707 Turbo Compressors
The selection of T/Cs on 707s varied depending on customer needs, mostly 3 sometimes 2, for cabin pressurisation air supply.
May I suggest to ‘Google’ ‘Boeing 707 Turbo Compressor’ for a range of answers.
