Boeing 707 Quiz

If there’s a 747 quiz, why not one on the lovely 707? Here it goes. As with the other one, see if you know these off the top of your head.

1. What was the Model number of the prototype 707?

2. What was the date of the first flight of the prototype?

3. How many different models of 707 are there?

4. How many passengers can the 707-320 carry maximum?

5. What is the highest performing model of the 707?

6. What year did the 707 first enter service and with what airline?

7. Name at least 10 countries that use the 707 in their militaries.

8. Name at least 15 airlines that have used the 707 over the years.

9. Name all the engine types used by the 707.

10. Name the most powerful engine used by the 707 and its rating.

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz

Well I didn’t post them cause you were right on both of them.

You’re also right about the first president to fly on a jet-powered Air Force One.

The problem remains that I gotta come up with more questions because Mr. Let’s Look Everything Up kinda botched the last quiz. I’ll come up with something though.

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-08-02 AT 01:54 AM (GMT)]Phantom, I actually 2nd guessed myself after I posted the last one, and figured the 720 was indeed correct. You never posted the correct answers for the 2 bonus questions, even thought I’m pretty sure they were both correct. Also, I only had to look up one or 2 of the last quiz, I actually knew the majority. Lastly, the president that first flew on the jet powered Air Force One was Dwitght D. Eisenhower.

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz

Well Rabie I’m glad you can look all this stuff up. But the point of the quiz was off the top of your head….lol. Anyone can look things up, I just wanted to see who knew what and if the things that people didn’t know they could get by guessing. I guess I’ll have to think up some more questions.

And regarding the E-6, I believe it is the 707-320 airframe with CFM engines. The last 707’s of any type were produced in 1991 I believe. The E-6’s were some of the last to come off the line.

That’s the spirit Kabir. In any case, the whole point of my quiz aside from just a bit of fun is th help people learn about the 707.

Here we go with military 707/KC-135 stuff:

1. What is the military designation applied to USAF 707-320’s (used for VIP purposes?

2. What are the four variants of the KC-135 currently in USAF service?

3. What countries aside from the United States currently operate the KC-135?

4. What is the designation for Saudi Arabia’s small fleet of 707 tankers?

5. What is the role of the E-6?

6. What model 707 is the E-6 based on?

7. What is the acronym describing the mission of the E-6 and what does it stand for?

8. What countries aside from the United States operate the E-3 Sentry?

9. Name at least three C-135 variants aside from the KC-135.

10. Back in the civlian ring, name at least 5 operaters of the 707 toda (can be airlines and/or cargo carriers)

Bonus: Who was the first president to fly onboard the first jet powered Air Force One?

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz

Nice job Greekdude, but you are still incorrect on that one about highest performing 707. It was kind of a trick question. The answer is the 720 (720B really, as it had more powerful turbofan engines). It was lighter in weight, but had roughly the same power as the larger 707 and therefore was a much quicker machine. In terms of cruising speeds it is one of the fastest commercial airliners ever. However, the baseline 707 (707-320B/C in particular) is also a very quick machine and not far behind the 720. Of course, it does have a mcuh larger range and higher capacity than the 720.

Since you seem to be enjoying this, would you like a quiz on KC-135/military 707 stuff?

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz

Ok, the best performing version I suspect has to be the -138’s ordered by QANTAS. As far as the bonus questions go:

1) ‘Dash 80’
2) 717

About time I get to a quiz before other people do, and get most of them correct, no less.

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz

Kabir you got number 4 right! Good job. Number 3 was already correct so you didn’t need to add anything there. I just meant baseline DASH models, nothing more than 707-120, 707-320, etc. The 320B, 320C, etc. didn’t have to be listed.)

Regarding number 5, that one is not quite right. While the 420 was a bit spritlier than the 320 (although not when it came to range), it was still not the highest performing 707 variant.

Here’s two bonus questions:

1. What was the nickname of the 367-80 prototype?

2. What was the model number for the KC-135 prototype?

NOTE: Even though the 135 is technically not a 707, I consider them related and figure it wouldn’t hurt to add-in some questions about it as well.

3rd: 720: cargo, combi and tanker varients
320: increased capacity
420: increased capacity

4th: 219

5th: B707-420

I dont know much about the 707 so i am guessing all are wrong….. 🙂

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz

Well you did pretty good. On number 3 I was counting the 720 (originally known as the 707-020 just so you know), but you mentioned it so you get that question right.

Numbers 4 & 5 are wrong. Let’s wait and see if anyone else knows. Here’s a small hint. Range is not the type of performance I was referring to. If that was the case you would have been right.

Number 10 I’ll give you credit for because you were so close. The JT3D of the 707-320B produced 19,000 pounds of static thrust, while the TF-33’s on the E-3 and E-8 produce 21,000 pounds of static thrust each. I believe the TF-33 is also fitted to the KC-135E. I believe the Rolls-Royce Conways of the 707-420 produced 21,000 pounds of static thrust per engine, though I’m not sure.

Go back and think about 3 & 4 again. (Try not to cheat :))

RE: Boeing 707 Quiz

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-08-02 AT 00:43 AM (GMT)]I’ll take a shot at some of these, since nobody has answered yet.

1. 367-80

2. Thursday, July 15th, 1954

3. 4: -120, -320, -420, and -138 (QF’s special order). I’m assuming
we don’t count the 720 in this?

4. 189

5. 707-320

6. 1959, Pan Am

7. U.S., Pakistan, Canada, Iran, Australia, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Egypt, Chile

8. Pan Am, American, TWA, Northwest, Olympic, Air France, British Airways, MEA, TMA, Singapore, QANTAS, Kenya Airways, Aer Lingus, BWIA, Cyprus Airways

9. Pratt JT-3C, JT-3D, JT-4, RR Conway

10. JT-3D, 22,000lbs. thrust, I’m not sure about this one.
