Boeing 747 on Fifth Gear ?

I’m not sure if this is the right forum – but it seems a bit ‘livelier’ than the Commercial Forum….

Did anyone see Fifth Gear on Channel Five UK TV last night ??

One of the items was the pulling power of a VW Touareg – so they hitched it up to a derelict 747 and towed it along the taxiway.

The 747 in question was a strange beast – the two inner engine pylons had ‘twin’ engines – and the outer pylons had drop tanks.

What was it ?? a film prop ? Location ?? Anything ?

The engine exhausts were also interesting – lots of saw-tooth trailing edges.

Obviously not real – but what ??

is it possible to get that close to the airframe or did you get special permission.

Being a Bond fan I would love to have a walk around the aircraft.

Flanker_man,

This is the machine used in the new James Bond movie “Casino Royale”, which incidently I thought was pretty good.

Can’t remember what she was called in the film, but do recall that along with the changes unde the wing the distinctive 747 upper deck was re-contoured at the front so that she appeared much more blunt-nosed.

Hope this helps
