9 Hours to reduce a 747 to scrap? Perhaps I should go into the aircraft breaking business. Gimme 5 minutes in the Captain’s seat and I’ll reduce any plane to scrap…

….Might only do it once though 😮

Just need a Flight Engineer for your crew – Capt. Bmused, FO PMN….:D

Head to Africa and you can take one with just one man, apparantly…

Yeah flying on a 727 would be pretty damned cool. The closest I’ve come to it is flying on a TU-154B2 in Russia. Hmm… Actually that’s not so bad. 😀

I’d give my right arm to fly a 727.

I’ve recewnly bought a logging program for the lap top and am entering spotting details from my trips to the US in 1991/92/93 and am amazed at the carnage that has been wreaked on the 727/737/747/Dc-10/L1011 fleets that I saw at the time.

Gone,all gone…

Sniff….sob….:(

Whilst it is certainly interesting, perhaps to keep the moderators happy you could just keep adding updates to one thread? 🙂

Well, I like your updates. A6-GDP was pretty well known around Stansted, sometimes it was in every week.

Interestingly and on a slight tangent, there was a bit in the paper a couple of weeks back about an Indian (I think….?) airline captain who was having a lean spell so he bought a 747 and had it scrapped in Bangladesh, where labour is cheap. He then made enough selling on the parts to not only get himself financially stable again, but paid for a flash new car as well!

Are we going to have one of these threads every time a super-annuated B747 gets the chop?

Just asking, like.

They’re probably being turned into soda cans at a great rate of knots..most of them don’t even get a mention..now if it was an A380 then your ears would start to prick up 😉

Always sad to see an old plane die, but better to get it over with quickly than have it sitting there for years slowly rotting. I travel past manston a lot and it breaks my heart to see the handful of abandonded airframes up there. Particularly the 747 and DC-8 outside the airfield perimeter. I would like to see these aircrafts fate decided quicker, to maximise the value of recycling as apposed to building up parking charges! Its amazing to see how much stuff avia is stripping out of the 747 to be re-used.

Anyone have any new info on any airframes left up at KIA, ex das air dc-10, ex RAAF707, ex kuwaiti 747 and the progress of KLM aquiring the dc-8? I see some aircraft listed on the ASI website, but doesn’t give any hard info

cheers

Hey, all things come to an end, if it wasn’t you breaking them up it would be someone else. Can’t see the point in giving you flak for it myself.
It is a shame when you see pics of planes in a “graveyard”. I always wonder what they might have seen (if they had eyes and were of course alive). Its just cool the places they go. But, like I say, all good things must come to an end sooner or later. Keep posting the links please and have a great weekend!
