Boeing discusses 7E7 at Progress Summit II

Full article here

SEATTLE, Nov. 18, 2004 — Boeing [NYSE: BA] and representatives from about 70 airlines and financial institutions spent two days in Seattle this week discussing the all-new 7E7 Dreamliner airplane’s progress as Boeing moves toward finalizing the airplane’s configuration next year.

In addition to meeting with customers in smaller, face-to-face sessions all year long, the 7E7 program hosted a cross-section of customers for the second consecutive year in a large-meeting setting. Called the Progress Summit II, the meeting featured open discussion about customer requirements, concepts for standardizing and simplifying the 7E7, and airplane financing.

“As in the past on such airplanes as the 777, our customers’ contributions to the process of defining the airplane have been essential to Boeing getting it right,” said Boeing 7E7 Program Vice President, Sales, Marketing and In-Service Support John Feren. “The perspective and insight our customers have shared with us to help make the 7E7 the best value proposition is truly amazing.”

The Tail Configuration is far from set in stone… this is just where they are at now.

The 737 is the last “real” Boeing, it has character, hope they will not change it too much, when they will upgrade it with 7e7 technology. The best looking Boeing is still the 727-200 !!

@Bmused55
Nothing against the A319, A320 or A300, they have something, too, especially the A300 is very elegant -for me much more then the 767, but that is just my personel opinion. I haven´t made my mind regarding the A380, guess to have see it in real life to decide.

@Arthur
The only good looking russian commercial airliner is the TU-154. The TU 204 is more a copy of the 757 and A320 family, the IL 86 is a bad copy of the A300 with 4 engines and a bad performance…and the new TU 334 is like its predecessor TU-134 butt ugly 😉 Sorry, to say that, but russian commercial airliner are mostly ugly, didn´t say anything about military jets and transport planes, though 😉

yes, it’s possible to make much uglier… it’s called a 737.

or the A320 or A380 or A300. The 737 has way more character than the 3 of these put together.

4400+ units delivered… shows that looks and personal oppinions mean nothing.

I am suprised to see that the fuse is carbon laminate. That must increase the cost some. Also, think about the size of autoclave you would need to fit that in.
An un-official airbus source once told me that the A380 was going to have alot more composite parts, but they scrapped the idea as it was going to be far too costly to make it worthwhile. Maybe now the technology is not as cutting edge, the costs involved are less.

And you accomplish this by designing and building butt ugly planes?

Da ! But the true beauty lies, i guess, inside the ideology of the crowds in movement. Or at least so he thinks :diablo:

Let’s face it, Candids are fabulous, except for the accountants, and for the neighbours 😉

Aaahh… they’ve reinvented the 767 after all… 😉

Well since the 7E7 is supposed to play in the same category , it shouldn’t look very diffrent from the outside.
The dimensions will be in the same range , it will be a twin engine , therefore I don’t expect something very new.

I guess the new design will be hidden in avionics , new engines and new materials as shown above.
