Boeing SB-17 Flying Fortress

Hi Guys,

Can anyone provide me with information about any unit of the USAAF/USAF which was UK based and equipped with Boeing SB-17 Flying Fortresses. These were converted to carry airborne lifeboats for air sea rescue. I know that the 5th ERS had some but I need some photographic evidence so I can accurately construct a model to go into a historical display.

Hi Dan,

This is exactly what I am looking for. A UK based 5th ERS lifeboat equipped B-17. This should make a lovely weathered model for the display.

SB-17

All I have is a single pic which you are welcome to. I don’t even know it will help but here you are. (I’ll include some non-lifeboat SB-17 / B-17H as well)
