rather than have the JSF thread deviate into X-32 vs X-35, let’s talk about the X-35 here.
It had a larger intake which allowed for more growth potential (think air flow and engine upgrades)
A larger wing which allows for more fuel and better wing loading (think range and external stores)
a larger internal weapons bay (think stealth stupid)
and a simpler and cheaper airframe (think of practicality)
it might not have been the better fighter but it sure would have much more potential as an attack aircraft.
unfortunately some people are all about sex appeal and dismiss the Monica because of it’s looks.. well I got something to tell you.. you can’t bang an aircraft!
Is it dead? possibly not..
Japan has just cancelled their Mitsubishi F-2 🙁
and stated they are in need of a new aircraft..
The X-32 or X-32 based design is the perfect choice..
why?
1. The Japaneezy like to base their designs on some one elses aircraft and since the Euros have no 5th generation fighter, all they’ve left to choose is the F-22, YF023, F-35 and X-32. Seeing as how they don’t need an F-15 replacement, and want to be unique, the X-32 is prime.
2. Maritime strike role, the X-32 is better suited for it
3. 5th generation aircraft, will be superior to any aircraft their neighbors are capable of putting out, at least until 2020.
4. The Japanheads can put their own AESA onto it allowing them to use their indigenous AShMs and AAms and what not.
