The Manx Aviation Preservation Society has finally taken delivery of a Bolingbroke cockpit section in superb condition for restoration (see photos). It arrived from Canada 12 days ago and was formerly “rolled out” yesterday (3/7/04).
Now here’s where you guys and gals come in…..!
We have very scant info on the cockpit fit of a Bolingbroke which was substantially different to a blenheim, namely US instruments for a start. This is also our first big restoration project so we are after ANY information/parts etc. We have of course been in touch with the chaps at Duxford and the group we obtained the section from origianlly but other than that, we’re starting from scratch so any info, leads etc. no matter how small will be of immense value. Feel free to PM or e-mail me if you don’t wish to post material here.
I took these pictures yesterday but you can see the condition is superb considering nothing has been done to her for 60+ years in open air storage!

Hi Skypilot,
I got some pics yesterday of the CWH Boly interior, under restoration, thanks to the kindness of several people at the CWH. I’ve got a batch more – PM me and I’ll send you the full size pics.
Cheers / Salut

and had it shipped over via sea freight. Cost around £2000

Blimey!!!!!!
Well that’s the end of my Bolingbroke project then. I was trying to get
some reasonable priced transport but the price you mention is a lot of euro’s. I think I can better spend some of that in trying to obtain the original Halifax instrument en flight engineers panels I recently located.
Pity as the Boly cockpit is a very nice and compact and very significant display item in it’s own right. I wish your project every succes and may she be brought back to full health soon. I know there is another project going on in the UK to try to obtain a Boly cockpit from Canada.
Cheers

Column included but no yoke. We arranged for a specially built container, shown in the top pictures, and had it shipped over via sea freight. Cost around £2000.

Skypilot,
You are a wise man to make sure the rudder pedals and seat are included in the deal. I myself had made some enquiries earlier this year to obtain a Bolingbroke cockpitsection from Vince O’Connor in Canada to bring to Holland for restoration. Provided that a seat, rudder pedals and control column were present.
I put the project on hold recently as transportation was a problem. How did you arrange for transportation and does your cockpit have a control column?
Cheers

skypilot.
I thought the damage around the nose was fixed while in service?

You may be a lucky boy. I’m doing some (non-Bolly) research at the moment in Canada; and will be researching at Rockliffe and the DND photo archives in Ottawa (if I can figure out how!). I’ll also be popping along to the boys (and gals) at Hamilton – wh, as I’m sure you know, are rebuilding their Bolly to fly. I also have a 4″ stack of ARCO Bolly / Blenheim photos (back in the UK at the mo…) What EXACTLY do you want? Feel free to PM me with contact details, and I’ll see what I’ve got time for…
Cheers

Peter, thanks for that. It is indeed that bolingbroke, 9041. And you’re correct it did have a P40 prang – as can be seen around the nose area. It also served on anti-sub patrols too so has an operational history.

boly history
I think this section was once owned by John Spinks. If so then it might be the same section of boly that was in a ground accident on the west coast with a P40. FLypast had an article on it many years ago. If it is the same one, I can dig out the article for you?
Update;
I found the article but the one John had was 9041?

We have a fair amount of history on her but any supplementary info appreciated.
