Bolingbroke on floats

Was browsing the internet for pictures of the Blenheim IV/Bolingbroke and came across some interesting pics on this http://www.ipmscanada.com/rcaf-ww2pics.html page of a Bolingbroke on floats, from what i’ve found it it was Bolingbroke 717 and returned to original status after testing. Does anyone know more about the tests, ie how successful they were, why they decided to do it? Could be an interesting way for the IWM to have the ARC finish off their Bolingbroke. (By the way, was told by someone at the IWM today that the Bolingbroke is planned to go in Airspace, do they just have out of date info or is it back on for going to airspace?)

Don’t show Graham Warner, or we’ll never see the Blenheim at Duxford again! :diablo:

On a slightly more serious note, what role was it envisaged for, I wonder? The drag from that lot must have been horrific and by about 1940 the Bolingbroke was hardly the fastest on the block anyway. There were dedicated ASR types (Walrus) available and I can’t see it as a freighter on the lakes.

Maybe it was just too much gin?

I thought i had seen everything but there you go, a bolingbroke on floats, great post, i think the bolingbroke might be going into the airspace to make room for other things in hanger, that is why the phantom and the mig 21 are in there.
