Bomb carriage by bombers

I understand during WW2 that Allied aircraft stored bombs horizontaly in the bomb bays. Can anybody explain how the bombs where attached and stored vertically in planes like the HE111 ?. Where they attached from the pointy end or did they use a ‘perimeter clasp’ around the casing ? I dont know, do you ?
