Bomber Command Campaign Medal Petition

Somebody told me about this site and I’ve decided to see whether or not enough interest can be raised to in order to try and get a belated recognition for the heroes (and heroines) of Bomber Command – please have a look at the e-petition and sign up to it – it’s no more than these brave people deserve.

Also, advertising it isn’t easy – if you know of any sites/forums etc where this might garner interest and support, please bring it to their attention. I know it’s a pretty forlorn hope, but you never know!

Cheers

I know – it is a forlorn hope – and the assertation that only UK citizens can sign is a shocker when so many boys from the Commonwealth laid down their lives. Thanks for the support though.

…Not forgetting French, Poles, Czechs etc. who also flew with Bomber Command. Let’s honour them all.

Stuart

Wish you well with your campaign but those in HMG will probably inform you ‘not to meddle with another medal’ 🙁

35000 Veterans from The Malayan/Malaysian Emergency and Konfrontasi are having a ding dong at this moment in time with The Foreign & Commonwealth Office on the right to wear a medal awarded to us from The King (Agong) of Malaysia. The Queen has disapproved our right to wear The Pingat Jasa Malaysia Medal but at the same time permitted our ANZAC countries Veterans to wear it! http://www.fight4thepjm.org/index.htm

Then of course there is the fight that the Arctic Convoy and Suez Canal Vets had with HMG, these people bury their ostrich hats like the bird does its head into the sand only after causing embarrassment to the rest of the world.

Make sure you have enough resources to back up your petition, you might just need it I’m sad to say 😡

Chances are that the best the MOD will provide will be a cheesy little xmas-cracker style brooch/pin/badge like they did for the “UK Veterans” and again for the Arctic Convoy men.

Hear hear Don (gnome).

Though I support any action that will help to properly commemorate those from Bomber Command, and I don’t want to come across as yet another one of the insessant knockers on this forum, sadly I doubt this petition will have any effect. There have been campaigns in the past to get a medal stuck which failed, so I’m told. And then one was struck by the Bomber Command Association anyway so what sort of Government will go out of their way to create a new medal when, in their eyes, it has been done?

If you can put forward a convincing argument Stuart that actually suceeds in getting a proper medal struck, good on you, and good luck. Sadly I cannot sign your petition as I’m not a pom!

only UK residents need apply !!!

Assorted inappropriate language !!!!! Think Captain Haddock.

That petition states “You must be a British citizen or resident to sign the petition”.

That’s really disappointing and inappropriate. In fact I’m angry. A significant proportion of Bomber Command aircrew and casualties came from the Commonwealth. They should be recognised. And therefore Commonwealth citizens should be given a dispensation to petition for that recognition.

Good one Stuart.

Can’t you edit your first post and then delete the second one? I got confused when it openened onto the petition for VE day holiday and it might put people off.

Roger Smith.
