Bomber Command – East Midlands

The first of the BBC East Midlands Today news items mentioned on another thread elsewhere about these parts is now online, and will be for approximately 10 hours from now on the following link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01jyxcx/East_Midlands_Today_18_06_2012/

There are two sections that contain a variety of items including archive footage, interviews and some Just Jane footage.

Addendum: the first section starts at approx. 05.05 and the second section at 14.10

Two further pieces are due for broadcast; one tonight and another on Wednesday night.

I always get confussed out that way, I once had to produce my documents in Leicester for a speeding fine on the edge of Normanton! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Nice to see some people’s efforts being recognised and some additional aviation coverage for the region!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, it should be Nottinghamshire, it’s right in the description, just the title that’s wrong. It’s all a bit confusing around there, Threeshires Bush is more or less at the top righthand corner of Bottesford Airfield, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire all meet up there, and they start off talking about the airfield, which is mainly in Leicestershire.

Not 100% certain about the county listed in the title but nevertheless hereโ€™s the third of the BBC EMT Bomber Command clips http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-18526693 ๐Ÿ™‚

No problem AM – I’m not going to be around for much of tomorrow, but todays broadcast should go online around lunchtime – I’ll try and remember to add the link later.

From NAM’s involvement in filming several BBC programmes they look set for a range of aviation topics in the coming months.

These BBC EMT programmes started out as a commemoration for the first Thousand Bomber Raid, but evolved into the Bomber Command items. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for flagging these up, TO.

Having watched both, I had a quick search around the BBC website and came up with this programme from BBC4 which I had missed:-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01jwk7k/Things_We_Forgot_to_Remember_Series_8_Episode_4/

It’s about the airborne electronic “seesaw” between the Allies and the Germans, and in particular, the effect of the landing, in error, of the JU88 at RAF Woodbridge in 1944, and the secrets which were revealed as a consequence.

Fascinating stuff and a few veteran’s memories included, too.

Good stuff. One of my very distant relatives took off from Langar and didn’t return. Nice to hear a mention of Wymeswold as well.

Langar is a special place for me as my first piece of wreckage came from there but also as a semi keen cyclist i often go to the memorial to 207sqd and spend a few moments thinking of the crews that not only flew from there but also the ones that didn,t come back.

Roy is still doing guiding at Coningsby โ€“ indeed he was diverted from his Friday morning session to Newark Air Museum to record the interview.

As always a lot more was recorded than was broadcast โ€“ I hope that they may include more in the item they are recording on the 28th. I must confess that until I contacted him about the filming I hadnโ€™t fully appreciated that Roy was a โ€˜Winthorpe Old Boy!โ€™

Langar tonight and Staunton-in-the-Vale tomorrow night.

Just spotted this version of the Monday item http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-18505862 which doesn’t seem to be on the i-player!
