If that news report is correct then that is just a plain unspeakably miserable act by the British government.

Unless my history is wrong all those that were part of bomber command never received a campaign medal to recognise the part they played nore were they included in the victory parades.

They played a vital part in winning victory for the free world, many paid the ultimate price.

However unpleasant the outcome was (and still is) considered they were under orders and carried these out.

It is a disgrace that it has taken more than 70 years for a memorial to be errected.

Our politicians should consider that they have the option today to say “We are not going to pay” only because of the freedom earned by ALL those that won that freedom.

One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter (isn’t that right Nelson) it’s a global point of view; perhaps she wasn’t as close to Mountbatten as Charles….

I think I would rather spend 700K on looking after the surviving veterans!
Whilst its nice to have tea and cake for a load of dignitories -does it really mean anything in the bigger scheme of things.

It seems that Her Majesty the Queen will be in attendance at the unveiling of this Memorial to 55,000 brave souls who gave their all and the countless thousands of others who served, in whatever capacity, with Bomber Command and survived. Am I alone in finding it somewhat ironic that the day before, Her Majesty will shake hands with a convicted terrorist?

Regarding the bill for the opening of the Bomber Command Memorial, is Mr. Cameron now going to retrospectively charge Veterans for the opening ceremony for the Royal Navy Memorial, the Guards Memorial and the Memorial to the missing of the RAF at Runnymede?

We may deserve the politicians we get, but it’s a certain fact that those men and women who served within Bomber Command or any of our Armed Services deserve so much better.

Actually I can see the government’s point; why should they have to pay the £700,000…

…that nearly £12.60 for every life that was lost in Bomber Command!

the LUNATICS have taken over the asylum!!!!

i was going to say words fail me… but a thought-

if the royal party, military big-wigs,mp,s and any other personage or hanger on other than the vets, and their familys, don,t go that should knock the price of security down by a good portion of the £700,000!
After all those who need and want to be there wont cause any trouble..

regards
jack…

Bomber Command Memorial

Jesus Christ!

this and the BBC supposedly not showing it live (on BBC3) – unless that has changed due to criticism of the Thames Pageant.

They announced last week the final bill of the Olympics (final bill even if three times the original estimate!) was under budget.

Suppose it should not be the MOD paying anyway, but the Bomber Command Association cannot be liable.
