Great to hear what the portrait has raised for the memorial, she’s a credit to you and a great example of what the younger generation can do when encouraged to get involved. 🙂
Like you I was a little uncertain about the materials, but in yesterday’s warm autumn sunshine and with the blue skies it positively ‘glowed’ – a good choice IMHO.

She did, he was just where you said and we had a quick chat before he went to lunch, the portrait she did for him has now raised over £3000 for the Memorial, he’s very supportive as well as fabulous to listen to!
I’m afraid I shed a few tears, can’t help thinking of some of the amazing acts of courage you hear.
We found all of ours, but not quite all on my list, they were no doubt there but we ran out of time, good excuse to go back when it’s open to the general public. I must admit when I went to watch the spire go up I was a little worried about the effect of the corten steel, but now it’s doing it’s stuff I have warmed to it, obviously used for the lack of maintenance, but it makes this Memorial seem so different to the London one, seemed to remind me of the amazing engineering and design that played such a huge part in Bomber Command…

It was also good to see you and your daughter, did she manage to find “Johnny” Johnson?
The performing arts production was indeed very moving; one veteran near me was moved to tears, which in itself was very moving.
Did you manage to find all of your crew members?

It was a wonderful day, so many veterans and a well thought out service, I particularly enjoyed the short production from the Performing Arts course at Lincoln University relaying the last flight of a crew, and the composition of the new anthem ‘Strike Hard, Strike Sure’ and of course seeing TwinOtter……

The Lanc did engine runs yesterday but she hasn’t flown yet.

It is both discourteous and slovenly for the media not to take the trouble to make sure they get the facts right in stories like this or any stories, for that matter. And particularly the BBC which is so quick to puff up the quality of its news reporting, looks second rate.
