Bomber Veteran flies BBMF Lanc (Video)

A touching video of Sir Michael Beetham at the controls of PA474.
He flew 30 missions with 50 Squadron having joined up at 18 in 1941.

Filmed on September 27th, 2008 I believe; when the Lancaster did a flypast at Newark Air Museum in memory of a 619 Squadron crew of Lancaster ME846, who were having a memorial plaque re-dedicated to them at the museum. [A brief mention in the soundtrack!] 😉

Not ‘Pilot in Command’ of course, but as the commentary states, the Captain did allow Sir Michael to (briefly I imagine) take the controls and fly the aeroplane from the right hand seat.

He seemed very moved at the flight’s conclusion, no wonder really.

Nope, it is Tony Iverson who is flying in and is allowed to take control of the Aircraft;)

Very moving all the same.

Nice little clip, but it is S/L Tony Iveson at the controls, not Michael Beetham.
