Book- "The Flying Greek" by Colonel Steve Pisanos

This book is the war-time memoir of Colonel Steve Pisanos, born in Greece, emigrated to America, volunteered for the RAF and flew Spitfires, transfered to the USAAC were he flew P-47s and P-51Bs, shot down over France, hidden by the Resistance, post-war tested the P-80 and finished his military career as assistant Military Attache in the US Embasy to Greece where he helped convince the Greeks to buy the F-4E in the early 1970’s.

Sorry late reply to this post…yes this is an interesting and enjoyable book.
After his P51B engine cut out over france Steve tried to bale out but his dinghy cord ‘snagged’ in the cockpit,by the time he got it free he was too low to jump,so he made an incredible forced landing kneeling on the port wing root and reaching in to operate the control column….!!!!
Good landing too…the a/c remained upright.
